Kakadu (Deutschlandfunk Kultur)

Kakadu is the name of the children's program on Deutschlandfunk Kultur . Kakadu will be broadcast on Sundays from 7 July 2019 from 7.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. (of which from 9.05 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. Kakadu Magazin * ) and on national holidays. Kakadu is the only children's radio show that is broadcast nationwide.

* Kakadu Magazin is broadcast half an hour longer on national holidays (when the holidays fall between Monday and Saturday).

Kakadu is no longer broadcast on the radio on weekdays.

program

The focus of the program is the inquisitive and lively cockatoo. Together with his friends, the good-natured tiger and the clever turtle, he deals with topics that are interesting for children between the ages of six and twelve. Multi-layered political or cultural issues are also presented in a child-friendly manner.

Each broadcast has its own motto and is introduced with a news overview. Discovery days, information days, but also music and chat days are offered as a general framework. The conveyance of the content happens u. a. through discussions, reports, reviews or hands-on puzzles.

Nine times a year the Kakadu presents interesting places in Germany for children. In 2011, for example, planetary observation was on the program in the Potsdam observatory, as was the Munich Botanical Garden in spring.

Medienbewusst.de emphasizes that the content is conveyed using clear and understandable language and that children are playfully involved in the programs in various ways.

Award

On December 1, 2008, Lydia Heller, Antonia Rötger and Nadine Querfurth, authors of the children's program, were awarded the 2008 DUH Environment Media Prize. The jury saw Kakadu's recipe for success in the fact that children are stimulated and motivated to think and do their own activities through information that has been processed in a way that is suitable for children. The conveyed message that acting together is successful supports children in getting involved in the world and their future.
