Kiraka (short for Ki Direction Ra dio Ka nal; to 3 September 2012: KIRAKA), a digital specialty channel of was until 30 November, 2019 West German Radio only for children, among other things, every day the award-winning broadcasts WDR5 Kiraka (formerly Lilipuz) and Bärenbude (last broadcast day November 30, 2019) broadcast. KiRaKa broadcast daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., from 7:05 p.m. to 8 p.m. and additionally on Sunday at 2:05 p.m., the program was also broadcast on WDR 5 at the same time, like the new show Bärenbude Wecker on Sunday at 7:05 a.m. (last broadcast day November 24, 2019 ). The evening Bärenbude broadcast daily on the Kiraka digital channel from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The program WDR5 KiRaKa will be retained and will continue to be broadcast on WDR5.

On September 4, 2012, the station was restarted. The WDR-5 show “Lilipuz” was renamed “WDR 5 KiRaKa”. In the course of the restart, the spelling of the station name also changed to "KiRaKa" and a new logo was introduced.

The broadcast time has changed again since January 2018. From 5 p.m. live will be broadcast from Monday to Friday in KiRaKa. From 7:05 p.m. to 8 p.m. in parallel on WDR 5. Between January 2016 and the end of 2017, the Kiraka broadcast live from 7:05 p.m. to 9 p.m. Before that, KiRaKa broadcast live on WDR 5 at 2 p.m.

On December 1, 2019, KiRaKa was replaced as a digital channel by “Die Sendung mit der Maus zum Hören” ( Die Maus (radio program) ). Based on the TV show with the mouse , laughing and non-fictional stories, future topics, music and children's questions can be heard there, both via its own website, as a podcast , via the mouse app and via DAB +. The “KiRaKa” brand will be retained as a single program and will be broadcast on WDR 5 as before . The Sunday “bear stall alarm clock” will be replaced by the audio offer of the “broadcast with the mouse”.

With the exception of the programs broadcast on WDR 5, KiRaKa was initially a pure web radio . On May 29, 2009, the station took over the distribution channels from the discontinued WDR 2 Klassik . Most recently, KiRaKa could be received nationwide via Astra DVB-S, digitally in the cable network and via the Internet . KiRaKa could be received via DAB + in NRW via channel 11D and in Saarland via channel 9A. On December 20, 2012, WDR KiRaKa was activated in the state of Bremen via DAB + (Channel 7B). This test operation went into regular operation on February 1, 2013. A reception area that was also added was South Tyrol . KiRaKa has been distributed there since spring 2013 by the South Tyrol broadcasting company. The launch of KiRaKa in Bavaria (via DAB + on channel 11D), planned for May 4, 2015, has been postponed indefinitely.
