action

Oswald Schneider, known as Ossi, has just been released from prison when he is already working on a new coup with his friend Karl Brenner. A first consideration fails due to Ossi's lack of current knowledge; an institution he wants to rob has not existed for a long time. A second plan is needed and is found: Ossi wants to raid an iron foundry in which old D-Mark coins are melted into cups. According to Ossis calculations, around 300,000 DM could be stolen from a robbery, which could then be exchanged.

In addition to Ossi and Karl, the rowing brothers Axel and Bruno, who were successful in the GDR, will soon join the team. They were once convicted of long-term doping and are now making their living as unsuccessful sausage sellers. Bruno has just attempted suicide, in which he was saved by Lea Bruhn. She works with Conny Weidenhagen as a security woman and carries out, among other things, money transports. Her boss tells her that she will be released in a few weeks.

To Karl's chagrin, Ossi collects more and more people who seem useful to him or whom he simply feels sorry for. Konrad Hauff is hired to spy on the site, as he used to be an active Stasi informant. Tommy Beck and his grandfather Friedrich Preiss sneak into the team because Friedrich used to work in the company. He was now a librarian, but was recently fired for being replaced with a scanning machine. Tommy, on the other hand, is lovesick because he loves his boss's daughter, Collien, and had sex with her in the guest toilet, but she only slept with him out of pity. Boris, in turn, comes to the team by chance and nobody really knows who he is and how he got there. In order for the group to be able to transport the money unobtrusively, they want to steal a money transporter. In the selected van, in turn, Conny and Lea are trying to get hold of the transported money, as their boss owes them a few monthly wages. Without further ado, they join the team. Number eleven is Ossi's former colleague Georg Richter, from whom Ossi stole a truck full of television sets and was imprisoned for it. Georg longs for his Bavaria, because the East German prefabricated building area makes him sick. Ossi gives him a train ticket to the south; but Georg confesses to him that nobody is waiting for him in Bavaria. Without further ado, he is brought to the team. The team, on the other hand, is not as harmonious as expected. Konrad's past makes Axel angry, so Ossi has to mediate. Ossi, in turn, discovers one day that his wife Nina is having an affair with Karl, but says nothing.

After all, the plan is vague, and everyone is perfecting their intended role. Small aids are built, processes are discussed, and one night the break-in begins. There are numerous breakdowns; So instead of a ski mask, Bruno brought a ski cap and is now walking through the building with a yellow bobble. A few dozen bags can be brought perfectly through the factory into the waiting money car, but the burglars soon realize that everything they do is being filmed - the iron foundry installed a surveillance camera a few days ago. Everyone hurries to retreat, only to notice outside that Karl has driven away with the money. He wants to build a new life with Nina, but parks the money car so inconveniently that he cannot open both side doors. The police arrest Karl. The photos of his lovers can be found on his cell phone, including the wife of the policeman who questioned him. The latter smugly shows him one of the stolen money bags: the coins in the factory all went through a decoiner before they were delivered, so they were devalued by punching. The theft of scrap metal is not a major offense, but in the end Karl ends up in jail for stealing a money truck.

For those involved, the unsuccessful break had its good side: Axel and Bruno speak out; Bruno had once consented to doping without Axel's knowledge. The guilty conscience plagued him so badly that he wanted to commit suicide; but Axel has known it for a long time through a look at his Stasi files. Bruno and his savior Lea become a couple. Tommy brings his grandfather back to work by removing the barcodes from the books for weeks and stealing them from the scanner unnoticed. The damage caused in this way exceeds the costs for a librarian many times over. Ossi and Georg eventually become friends. Georg tells Ossi that bricks are made from the now worthless D-Mark notes in Bavaria, and at the end Ossi asks whether Georg still has the ticket to Bavaria.

production

Ossi's Eleven was filmed from March 27th to May 9th, 2007 in Erfurt and Wolfen and the surrounding area. The iron steelworks was located in the Silbitz Guss steelworks , between Silbitz and Caaschwitz . The film was released in German cinemas on February 28, 2008. By March 2008, 44,507 visitors had seen the film. Ossi's Eleven was released on DVD in October 2008 and ran on TV for the first time on May 11, 2011 on SAT 1 .

The script is based on the namesake partner Ocean's Eleven , since each of the accomplices is useful for the execution of the plan through a special skill. Instead of the glamorous world of Las Vegas, however, the drama of an East German prefabricated housing estate is shown ; the course of the plot is more reminiscent of films like the Olsen Gang series or the Italian comedy Thieves have a hard time .

After a small role in Why Men Don't Listen and Women Park Badly , Ossi's Eleven was singer Sasha's second role in a movie. He contributed the two songs Bad Luck and Count U Out to the soundtrack under the pseudonym Nelson Rogers . Bruce Willis spokesman Manfred Lehmann can be heard as the boss of Conny and Lea, but does not appear as a person.

Reviews

The film-dienst called Ossi's Eleven the “attempt to parody the Hollywood film Ocean's Eleven , which vacillates indecisively between slapstick comedy, an inventory of all-German problems and dramolet. The superfluous new edition of a material that has already been seen many times better and more lively ”.

“Mielke also tells his story as a comical, melancholy parable about failure in the East, but without discrediting just one of his characters. It goes without saying that these likeable losers do not end up on the sunny side of life. How they manage their 'group excursion' (Ossi), however, is extremely amusing ”, says Volker Albers in the Hamburger Abendblatt .

The German Film and Media Rating (FBW) praised director Oliver Mielke: “With brilliant humor, he lovingly lets his film characters stumble through the film. This tickles the audience's laughter receptors and causes the desired success - without malicious glee. "

Awards

In 2008, the German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) awarded Ossi's Eleven the title “Valuable”.
