action

In the year 2417, Rio Kowalski, the pilot of an old space shuttle, is on his way to his destination with passengers, cargo and his self-repaired replicant "Max". On the way he intercepts the distress signal of the “Titanus”, a space freighter with a secret cargo that was damaged due to a collision. The unknown, but with 50 billion insured freight of the transporter soon aroused desires in Rio. He decides to investigate the crash site before the insurance company's ships. However, since he does not know the exact position, the flight captain has to get involved in a deal with Angie, who also heard the emergency call, but also wants to understand the coordinates. The journey does not go as planned, however, and Rio has to make an emergency landing on the last space station before the outer galaxy , Katanga Base.

There he gets to do with the security chief there, with whom he has often clashed. To make matters worse, he still lacks the money to repair his spaceship . Therefore he gets involved in a wrestling match in which “Max” has to fight another robot. At first the fight seems lost, but in the end Kowalskis self-made can win. So Rio now has the money it needs, but the head of security throws a spanner in the works and confiscates the money. Fortunately, at that very moment, a revolt takes place on Katanga, and Rio, Angie and Max are able to flee on a travel cruiser with the help of a mutant.

On the ship, however, it turns out that Angie is also a replicant and is also being hunted. But even this strain can be overcome by the now four travelers and they flee again, this time with a rescue ship. This will help you find the crash site. It turns out to be living cargo, namely millions of chicks. The reason for the high sum insured was that in the year 2417 there were almost no animals left, and for most of them the earth was nothing more than a picture on a postcard. Before Rio can salvage the cargo, however, another obstacle stands in his way: fireproof replicants that survived the crash. They decide to leave him with the Titanus wreck and its cargo and to escape from the planet alone. However, they fail to start their self-built ship, and Rio has to rush to help because the self-destruct has been activated. Ultimately, he can master this problem too, and all four and the replicants fly away with some of the cargo.

criticism

The lexicon of international films called Die Sturzflieger an "unsuccessful attempt to combine the genre of the science fiction film with that of the road movie."
