Iunia Claudilla

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iunia Claudilla (also Iunia Claudia ; † around 37 AD) was the first wife of the later Roman emperor Caligula .

Iunia Claudilla came from the Roman plebeian family of the Iunii Silani and was the daughter of the suffect consul of 15 AD, Marcus Iunius Silanus . Her wedding, organized by Emperor Tiberius , with the 21-year-old Caligula took place in 33 AD in Antium . She was not rejected by her husband , as the historian Cassius Dio claims, but did not survive her first pregnancy. Her death should be dated to around 37 AD. That year Caligula ascended the imperial throne and married Livia Orestilla as the next wife .
