Simsalabim Sabrina ( Sabrina: The Animated Series ) is an American animated series based on the sitcom Sabrina - Totally Verhext! based. The series was first broadcast in the USA on September 6, 1999, and in Germany on November 19, 2000.

Sabrina goes to Greendale Middle School , which her friends Chloe Flan and Harvey Kinkle and her adversary Gemini Stone also go to. The series focuses on the typical problems within middle school, mixed with Sabrina's first experiences with her magical powers.

Sabrina Spellman

Sabrina is the main character in the series. She is a twelve-year-old half-witch who lives in the "world of mortals" (as the witches call ordinary people). Sabrina is a half-witch because her father (Edward) is a sorcerer , but her mother (also Sabrina) is a mortal. Since Sabrina's mother is abroad as an archaeologist and Sabrina's father lives in the underworld , Sabrina lives with her aunts Hilda and Zelda, her uncle Quigley and the sorcerer Salem, who has been turned into a cat. They live together in a house in the fictional town of Greendale.

Sabrina attends Greendale Middle School. There she has to hide her magical powers - as she does in public - which is not always easy for her, especially because of Gem Stone's provocations.

Hilda Spellman

Hilda is Sabrina's aunt; she is the sister of Zelda and Sabrina's father. She is a witch at the age of 600. For the abuse of her magic powers she was punished by the Witches Council and now has to live in the body of a teenager.

Victoria Beckham served as a template for Hilda's appearance .

Zelda Spellman

Zelda is Sabrina's aunt; she is the sister of Hilda and Sabrina's father. She is a witch whose age is not mentioned explicitly, but she is older than Hilda. Zelda was also punished by the Witches Council and has to live in the body of a teenager.

Quigley

Quigley is Sabrina's uncle; he is the brother of Sabrina's mother and takes care of the household. Accordingly, he has no magical abilities. Quigley is quite stout, suffers from hair loss, and has several bizarre hobbies in botany. He takes care of Sabrina because her aunts are legally minors again.

Salem

Salem is a warlock who has been punished by the Witches Council for abusing his magical powers of living in the body of a black cat . He has sarcastic and self-centered traits.

Chloe Flan

Chloe is Sabrina's schoolmate and best friend. In addition, she is the only non-family person who knows that Sabrina and her aunts are witches.

Harvey Kinkle

Harvey Kinkle is a thoughtful boy with an alien t-shirt, which he wears in the second season. He has brown hair and green eyes. In the offshoot he is much more cheeky and self-confident and his hair is also not so dark anymore. He also has a special relationship with Sabrina, as the two teenagers have been friends with each other since childhood. It is still unclear whether there is more. But Sabrina's affection for Harvey is always particularly evident when Gem wants to stand between the two. Otherwise, Harvey is a bright skater, who can sometimes be a bit gullible and influenceable. He doesn't know anything about Sabrina's witch powers.

Gem (ini) Stone

The name Gem Stone comes from the fact that it represents something expensive (something like a gemstone ) for her parents, who are both business people . She doesn't get love from her parents and is therefore very hard-hearted and selfish with Harvey, Chloe and Sabrina. She's cocky and the richest girl in Greendale. She often uses her wealth to get paid help to do her homework.

Enchantra

She is the ruler of the witches and of the Greendale underworld. In the first two seasons, it is a relatively young and tall woman with black hair while it is significantly aged in the second season and in the purple dress of a damsel who runs about. She is very strict, but is also fair to “mortals” who either accidentally or consciously (e.g. to save Sabrina ) have moved into the underworld.

Cassandra

She's the pretty mean niece of Enchantra. She is stubborn and thinks she would do her "own thing". In the series, however, she is less common than in the film (although she is still called Porzia in the film) and is therefore rarely "punished". It only appears in the third and final season.

Maritza

Like Cassandra, Maritza only appears in the third season. She is an African American woman with auburn hip-length dreadlocks that she has tied in a braid . She is the most combative of Sabrina's friends and quickly gets angry when she or Sabrina is subjected to injustice.

Olivia

She was the wickedest witch in the underworld. She initially teamed up with goblins to enforce her racist plans against the witches and wizards. She wanted to turn the entire underworld to stone. But when the goblins learned from Sabrina, Harvey and Maritza that they were only being exploited by Olivia and then they began to rebel, the head goblin (with white hair) used a magic mirror and turned her into a rock himself . It only appears in the episode "Magic Ecology".

Sequels

The third season , which was first broadcast in the USA from 2003 to 2004 and in Germany in 2004, tells the story two years after the events of Simsalabim Sabrina . It is based on the film for the cartoon series. This is an offshoot with the original title Sabrina's Secret Life which, among other things, has a different style of drawing.

A sequel to Simsalabim Sabrina with the title Sabrina - Verhext again! Has been running since August 11, 2014 . on the Disney Channel. This contains new stories and has been visually changed compared to the previous series.
