action

The half-witch Sabrina travels with her best friend Gwen, also a witch, for a week-long vacation to Hamilton Island in Australia on the Great Barrier Reef . At the same time, Sabrina's cat Salem is on vacation in the same hotel as he does every year, pretending to be human, which is why the staff always only says “Mr. Saberhagen's ”cat and never the“ owner ”himself. When exploring the resort, the marine biologist Dr. Julian Martin invited to take part in a diving expedition. You will learn a lot about the reef from him, but will also be educated about water pollution that Dr. Martin and other conservationists on the island are very angry and worry about the marine mammals living in the reef. Shortly thereafter, Gwen and Sabrina discover a "male mermaid" named Barnaby, unconscious on the beach, who - like other marine mammals before - suffers from a rash that can lead to death because of the water pollution. They want him to see Dr. Bring Martin, but so that no one finds out that Barnaby is a mermaid, with Sabrina's magical help, he pretends to be an ordinary surfer for 48 hours. Sabrina and Barnaby get to know each other better and when Barnaby introduces her to his sister Fin, she also notices the rash on her fin. So they secretly decide to use ointment from Dr. Martin's lab to get Fin and the other affected people from Barnaby's mermaid colony with it. They are caught and Dr. Martin becomes suspicious. He places a tracking device in Sabrina's backpack, which unwittingly reveals the location of the colony. After all, Dr. Marten bring the existence of the mermaid colony to the public in order to gain fame. Sabrina and Gwen try to prevent this. They do it first by Sabrina conjuring up a storm, which is why Dr. Martens expedition ship has to turn back. But he perseveres and does not want to be stopped by Sabrina. He tries to catch the fugitive Barnaby with a drift net - but Fin ends up in the net, who wanted to save her brother. In the end, however, he does not have the heart to take the mermaids' freedom, as Sabrina reminds him that the protection of marine life was once his top priority. Barnaby and Fin can escape. The area where the mermaids live is also managed by Dr. Martin placed under nature protection. However, he explained to the press that had already arrived that this was necessary because of a supposedly extinct fish - the "Blaupunkt butterfly fish" - which Sabrina discovered during the joint diving expedition. The existence of Barnaby and his colony remains a secret and the mermaids can continue to live in secret.
