Chingy
Chingy (* 9. March 1980 in St. Louis , Missouri , actually Howard Bailey Junior ) is an American rapper .
Beginnings
Chingy was born on March 9, 1980 in St. Louis. He grew up in one of the northern parts of the city and began rapping when he was eight. He managed to combine his passion for music and school, so that he graduated from high school in 1998 with a good diploma.
Soon after, he began to devote himself more and more to music and recorded a single with his pals from the Git It Boyz that became very famous in St. Louis. Shortly after the single was released, Chingy was discovered by the St. Louis-based label Fo Reel Entertainment, who had already made the rapper Nelly big. But the attitude of the label did not suit the young musician , which is why he soon left it to look for a better label.
Career
In 2003 Chingy made his big break when he was signed to the label "Disturbing Tha Peace", which the rap star Ludacris had built. Shortly after signing the contract, his first single "Right Thurr" was released and became a huge success. Other singles from the first album Jackpot, which sold over 3 million copies worldwide, also made it into the American top ten . But the tide quickly turned when Ludacris and Chingy argued over who should represent the music label. Just a year after his album was released, Chingy left Disturbing Tha Peace and started his own record company called Slot-A-Lot Records, which was a sub-label of Columbia Records.
In 2004 the rap star released his next album "Powerballin '", but with significantly less success than his debut album. But Chingy did not let himself get down and in 2006 brought producer Jermaine Dupri on board, who had also produced hits for stars like Bow Wow and Janet Jackson . The first single from the new album was "Pullin 'Me Back", on which Chingy worked with singer and actor Tyrese Gibson . The album "Hoodstar" from 2006 has sold over 300,000 copies to date. The single "Dem Jeans", also released in 2006, was again created with the assistance of Jermaine Dupri.
Chingy's fourth album followed in 2007, but after all albums had previously reached the top 10 of the US album charts, Hate It Or Love It disappointed at number 84. The single Fly Like Me together with Amerie also only reached lower chart ranks. Internationally, the album hardly met with any response.
