Band history
Bobby G. Summers and LA Reid founded The Deele in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1981. There were lead singers Carlos "Satin" Greene, Darnell "Dee" Bristol, Stanley Burke and Kevin Roberson. A little later, Babyface, who was previously a member of the funk band Manchild , who had a small R&B hit with Especially for You in 1977 , joined them.
The Deele got a recording deal with Dick Griffey 's Solar label and had their first hit, Body Talk , in 1983 . The song reached number 3 on the R&B and number 77 on the pop charts. The associated album Street Beat then rose to number 9 on the R&B and number 78 on the pop charts. Other releases that made it into the R&B hit list in 1984 are Just My Luck (25th place) and Surrender (66th place).
The album Material Thangz was released in 1985, but fell short of expectations. In the R&B charts, the record rose to number 29 and in the pop charts to number 155. The title track that was released was number 14 on the R&B charts, the follow-up single Suspicious only to number 66. In the following years, Reid and Babyface made names for themselves as songwriters and producers , for example for The Whispers ' Rock Steady and Pebbles' Girlfriend , both of which climbed to # 1 on the R&B charts in 1987.
The success of the two musicians also helped the 1987 The Deele album Eyes of a Stranger to great attention. The record came to number 5 on the R&B and number 54 of the pop charts and was awarded gold . Although the first release, Can-U-Dance , did not go beyond number 48 on the R&B charts, the follow-up single Two Occasions became the band's biggest hit and climbed to number 4 on the R&B and number 10 on the pop charts. The formation's last chart success was Shoot 'Em Up Movies , which reached number 10 on the R&B charts in 1988.
The band's career was then interrupted when Babyface and LA Reid continued their careers as producers and songwriters. After a break of several years, The Deele was reactivated in 1993, but without Babyface, Reid and Roberson. The album An Invitation to Love , released in January, missed the charts, after which the band was disbanded again. Over ten years later, Greene, Bristol, Roberson and Burke came together to revive the band. They released the singles The Only 1 and All I Want for Christmas in 2007 . The album announced for 2008 was not released. The Deele continued to perform well into the 2010s.
