Milo Moiré

Milo Moiré (born 1983 ) is the artist name of a Swiss performance artist from Lucerne . Her art concept is based, among other things, on the presentation of her naked body in the context of internationally known art exhibitions and fairs. With the stylistic device of provocation , she therefore gets a lot of attention in the media.

Your stage name Moiré is derived from the so-called moiré effect . She writes that her art concept consists of the intention “to collide culturally closely spaced patterns in order to gain a new structure”.

Professional background

Milo Moiré claims to have Spanish-Slovak roots. Originally she wanted to become a painter, inspired by works by Francis Bacon , HR Giger , Frida Kahlo , Käthe Kollwitz , Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch .

She studied psychology at the University of Bern and obtained her master's degree in 2011. Her work was devoted to the question of what makes women's faces appear attractive and successful. In 2007 a radio interview with the Serbian performance artist Marina Abramović led her to develop her own concepts for performance art. She also dealt with pornographic content in modern art, such as can be found in the Lost Girls comics by Alan Moore and in works by Paul McCarthy , Valie Export and Carolee Schneemann . She lives in Düsseldorf with her partner, the photographer Peter Palm.

In August 2017, she took part in the fifth season of Celebrity Big Brother , reaching second place.

Since 2020 pornographic clips on under the name "milomoireofficial" Pornhub in Artcore style has been published by Milo Moire.

Performances (selection)

The Script System : Performance in the Düsseldorf subway in 2013 and 2014 in front of the Art Basel fair , where entry is denied. Clothing only appears in the form of words like bra , slip or shirt written on their body.
PlopEgg series : a series of performances in which Moiré presses colored eggs out of her vagina, which fall to the floor and create images when broken, in 2014 before the Art Cologne fair in Cologne

Bare life - how little abstraction can art tolerate? , LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur , Münster 2015: Moiré walks through the exhibition naked with a baby in her arms and looks at the works of old masters, on which naked women and small children are shown.

Naked selfies : while the Art 2015 art fair was taking place in Basel in 2015 , the undressed artist invited passers-by on Barfüsserplatz to have their pictures taken with her or to take selfies with her. While this performance took place undisturbed in Basel, it was taken into police custody in Paris. Milo Moiré chose the 15th France Festival in Düsseldorf to take another “nude selfie” on July 12, 2015 on the Burgplatz there . She used the 15-meter-tall replica of the Eiffel Tower erected on the occasion of the festival as the background for her photo .

As a reaction to the attacks on New Year's Eve 2015/16 , the artist demonstrated on January 8, 2016 on Cologne's Domplatte , wearing only shoes, for the respect for the freedom of women, holding up a sign that read: Respect us. We are not fair game even when we are naked !!!

In June 2016 in Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Cologne and London, Milo Moiré wore mirrored boxes around his chest and hips as part of a public performance about intimate body contact, through which passers-by wore their intimate areas and breasts for 30 seconds with a stopwatch measured, could touch. Cameras installed in the boxes documented these touches. In London the artist was arrested because of this action, arrested for 24 hours and released after paying around 1300 euros. The performance was intended as a homage to Valie Export, who carried out a similar art event in Munich as early as 1968.
