Energy Zurich is the third largest Swiss private radio station . The program went on air on August 15, 2003 on the frequencies of the previous radio station Radio Z and Hitradio Z respectively . The station is the first radio station in German-speaking Switzerland under the international NRJ brand . According to Mediapulse data from July 2020, an average of 227,000 listeners listened to the station every day in the first half of 2020 (Monday to Sunday). This corresponds to the third largest reach of all private radio stations in Switzerland , after the city rivals Radio 24 and Radio Pilatus (both CH Media ).
history
Energy Zurich emerged in 2003 from the radio station Radio Z, which belonged to the Goldbach Group based in Küsnacht ZH . The renaming took place due to the participation of the Paris NRJ Group in the station. Since the same year, the station has been organizing the annual Energy Star Night concert in Zurich (until 2015 Energy Stars For Free). On April 19, 2007 it was announced that Ringier had bought the majority stake in the station from Goldbach Media .
On October 31, 2008, the Federal Department for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) awarded the second and final tranche of VHF radio and regional television licenses. The licenses are broadcasting permits. In the area of the agglomeration of Zurich and the canton of Glarus , three concessions were distributed. Radio 24 , Radio Zürisee and Radio 1 received a license from the five applicants, including Energy Zürich . The DETEC justified his decision with the higher journalistic credibility of Radio 1 as compared to Energy Zurich. In addition, Article 43 (5) of the Radio and Television Act prefers Radio 1 , as it is more independent compared to Energy Zurich, which belongs to the Ringier publishing house. As a result of the negative license decision, the Swiss musicians Baschi , Bligg , Ritschi (von Plüsch ), Seven and Stress produced the protest song “Stahn uf”. The song reached number 1 in the Swiss hit parade on June 28, 2009 . At the beginning of January 2010, the radio station was finally able to take over the concession of another applicant for the Zurich region and thus secure its continued existence.
Energy Bern went on air on April 9, 2010 and Energy Basel on January 13, 2012 . On December 3, 2012, Energy announced that it would launch Energy TV, a Swiss music television channel .
Together with Ringier , Energy launched LandLiebe Radio on December 2, 2013 . The program focuses on relaxing music.
In mid-2015, Energy Zurich replaced its city rival Radio 24 from its decades-long throne of the most popular private radio. In January 2020 it became known that Energy Zürich would have to place itself back as No. 1 behind Radio 24 after four years.

Energy Zurich offers a radio program that is aimed primarily at young adults. The music selection focuses on the current hits. In addition to music, Energy Zurich offers a morning show (Energy Mein Morgen) and an evening show (Energy Downtown), information from Zurich and the region and invites you to concerts and film premieres on a regular basis.
Energy Mein Morgen
The morning show on Energy Zurich is moderated by Roman Kilchsperger and Jonathan Schächter and their co-moderator Nadia Goedhart . It runs on weekdays between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Energy Downtown
The after-work program is moderated by Sascha Wanner and runs from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Events
Together with Energy Basel and Energy Bern , the station organizes several events. The tickets for all events are not for sale, but will only be raffled.
Energy Star Night
The Energy Star Night is a concert event with national and international acts, which takes place once a year in the Hallenstadion Zurich in front of 13,000 spectators. Energy Zurich has been organizing the event since the first edition in 2003. Energy Bern has also been involved in the organization since 2010 and Energy Basel since 2012. Until 2015 the event was called Energy Stars For Free.
Energy Air
Energy Air has been part of Energy's event portfolio since 2014. It is a concert event with national and international acts, which takes place once a year in the Stade de Suisse in Bern in front of 40,000 spectators. The event is organized by Energy Zurich, Energy Bern and Energy Basel .
The event takes place in autumn.

Energy Fashion Night
In 2010, the Energy Fashion Night was the largest fashion event in Switzerland . Fashion trends and musical entertainment are offered in front of 6,000 spectators in the Zurich Hallenstadion .

The station can be received via VHF in the greater Zurich area and in the eastern part of the canton of Aargau on the frequency 100.9 MHz, in Uster and Glatttal on 105.2 MHz. The station is also broadcast via DAB + , the Internet , cable and mobile applications .

DAB + station
In addition to the Energy Zurich, Basel and Bern stations, Energy Zurich also offers other radio stations via DAB +. They only broadcast a music program 24/7 and can be received in German-speaking Switzerland.
