Dabu Fantastic is a Swiss band from the Zurich Oberland founded in 2008 . It consists of Da vid Bu cher (text, vocals, div. Tools) and DJ Arts (DJ, vocals). Other permanent members are: Gianluca Giger (bass, vocals), Sam Senn (guitars, vocals), Simon Britschgi (drums) & Yves Zogg (keys, synths, vocals)
history
Dabu Fantastic was formed in 2008 from a solo project by Dabu. In March 2009, after two solo CDs by Dabu, the first official Dabu Fantastic CD Agglo Disco was released . Discochugle followed in 2010, and finally Disco Titanic in November 2011 .
In 2012 they surprisingly won the title of Best Talent at the Swiss Music Awards . The band has played well over 200 concerts all over Switzerland. On August 29, 2014, the album Hallo Hund was their first album on Sony Music Entertainment Switzerland. On March 25, 2016, they released their first live recording with Die Fantastischen Wir . On September 2, 2016, their second album, Drinks, was released by Sony Music Entertainment Switzerland.
Founding member Djohn left the band in 2011 to devote himself to other projects. Drummer Thise Meyer played in the band until the end of 2015 and was replaced by Simon Britschgi in 2016 .
With the albums Hallo Hund (2014) and Drinks (2016), the band achieved top 5 placements in the Swiss charts . The song Angelina from the Drinks album was the best-selling Swiss song in 2016, was awarded a platinum record (30,000 units sold) and won a stone in the Best Hit category at the Swiss Music Awards . The band also accepted gold records (10,000 units sold) for the Drinks / Softdrinks album and the collaboration single Brütigam with Dodo.
At the end of the drinks campaign, Dabu Fantastic released a deluxe edition of the album on April 13, 2018, called Softdrinks , which was released as a double CD. As CD 1, the album is completely re-recorded as an unplugged version including two older songs. CD 2 contains the drinks album including Fredi and Los Los , the title track for the Papa Moll film.
The band released their current work as 4 EPs with 3 songs each within exactly one year. The first EP, Extended Play Frisch Usem Ei , was released digitally in February 2019 without prior notice and after the band's entire online presence was deleted. Exactly one year later the band released the album "Sleep Us". It immediately reached number 2 in the Swiss charts. The subsequent tour in the clubs and at the festivals was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Dabu Fantastic play dialect music with elements from pop, funk, soul and hip-hop. Her albums Hallo Hund und Drinks were co-produced by Dabu Fantastic with Patent-Ochsner members Disu Gmünder and Andi Hug . In March 2016 they played a concert exclusively with songs from the Fantastischen Vier , which they translated into Zurich German . Shortly afterwards, they published recordings from it digitally.
They wrote and produced their latest music in Tuscany , Zurich and Berlin . The songs were mixed and co-produced by the Berliners Schumann & Bach . Guitarist Sam Senn was also on the road in African countries for a long time, which the band gives as the reason for the new Dabu Fantastic sound.
Texts
Dabu's dialect lyrics are an important element of the music. His texts are always packed in stories that often contain social criticism. Songs like Angelina , Miin Ort , Vo Vord or Ugly also became hits because of the lyrics.
Political topicality
In 2009, Dabu Fantastic made two pointed statements on current political issues : on the hostage affair with Libya in October and the minaret ban in November 2009. They repeatedly commented on political issues and after the attack on Charlie Hebdo they published the song Wält wo liebe . In addition, together with Dodo (singer), they were responsible for the musical implementation of the Clap4Culture campaign against the federal popular initiative “Yes to the abolition of radio and television fees (abolition of Billag fees)” .
