The Superdry Plc is a British fashion chain . Until January 8, 2018 the company was called SuperGroup plc . The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is part of the FTSE 250 index . The former SuperGroup consisted of three brands: Superdry, 77Breed ( skater clothing) and SurfCo California ( surfing ). The trademark of Superdry products is the combination of decorative Japanese characters (the "counterpart" to Engrish ) and the Americana or vintage look for both streetwear and preppy fashion.

history

Superdry goes back to the Cult Clothing brand , which was founded in 1985 by Julian Dunkerton.

The first store of the then SuperGroup opened in 2004 under the name Superdry 極度 乾燥 (し な さ い) in Covent Garden , London .

The Superdry brand has no endorsement contracts with celebrities, but it has gained fame through celebrities such as footballer David Beckham , model Helena Christensen and actor Zac Efron , as they wear Superdry clothing more often.

In 2006 the brands 77Breed and SurfCo were added to the portfolio of the then supergroup.

In 2008 Superdry expanded worldwide and opened stores in almost all major cities and metropolises in Western and Southern Europe, including Berlin and Munich, as well as numerous others in over 20 countries on four continents.

In March 2010 the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange , which made founder Julian Dunkerton one of the 1000 richest Britons.

A profit warning from the SuperGroup in February 2012 caused the share price to fall 18% within a short period of time, forcing the company to reconsider further expansion plans .

The British sports car manufacturer Morgan Motor presented the Superdry Edition of its classic, the three-wheeler, limited to 200 vehicles in the summer of 2011 .

On October 22, 2014 it was announced that Dunkerton had resigned as CEO of Superdry and would be replaced by Euan Sutherland, the former CEO of the Co-operative Group. Dunkerton remained the largest shareholder after sales in February 2016 (27%). On January 8, 2018, SuperGroup plc changed its name to Superdry plc. In April 2019, Dunkerton "not only pushed back into operational responsibility by a narrow majority" at the general meeting of the British company.
