A Cubewano is a Kuiper belt object ( Kuiper Belt Object, KBO), that the sun at a distance 41-50  astronomical units encircled and no orbital resonance with the outer planet has. This as a classical Kuiper Belt objects ( Classical Kuiper Belt Objects, heavenly bodies designated CKBOs) move on nearly circular orbits, so low eccentricity , and orbital inclinations of up to 30 ° around the sun.

About two thirds of the known KBOs move on such a circle-like orbit around their central star. The others belong to the groups of resonant KBOs, such as the Plutinos , or to the Scattered Disk Objects (SDOs).

designation

The name Cubewano is derived from the English pronunciation of the provisional name (1992 QB 1 ) of the first KBO found (15760) Albion as "QB-one".
