Gavin James (born July 6, 1991 in Dublin ) is an Irish pop musician .

Career

Gavin James comes from a family with a long musical tradition, his great-grandparents were both well-known Irish opera singers and his sister is a singer in the Dublin Gospel Choir. At the age of eight he learned to play the guitar, as a teenager he was a singer in a rock band and when he came of age he started performing in the pubs of the Irish capital. In 2012 the singer released the EP Say Hello with the falsetto tones . The title song became a hit on the Internet, made it into the Irish charts and eventually even won Irish Song of the Year at the Choice Music Prize . After entering the charts a second time with the song Remember Me , he signed a recording deal with Capitol Records and released his first CD in 2014, Live at Whelans, with a recording of an unplugged performance. He was not only successful in Ireland, he also hit the charts in Belgium and the Netherlands. In the United States, he was invited to appear on the television show Dancing with the Stars . This was followed by the release of the EP For You and appearances in support of Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith on their respective tours.

Then James went into the studio and recorded the songs from the live album and two new songs with studio technology. His first studio album was released in late 2015 under the title Bitter Pill . It reached the top 5 in Ireland and stayed in the charts for over a year. It achieved platinum status. With the title song he was the first Irishman to win the Choice Song Award for the second time and the album was one of the ten nominees for the album price. In the spring of 2016 it was also released internationally, and it made it into the official charts in Great Britain and Switzerland , among others . In the US, it was ranked 21st on folk albums. The song Nervous was also internationally successful later in the year, in particular through the remix by Irish DJ Mark McCabe, and reached number 5 in Norway and 10 in France as well as several gold and platinum awards. At the end of the year he released an EP with Christmas classics like Fairytale of New York .
