Müslüm is the name of a stage character of the Bernese entertainer , actor , musician and comedian Semih Yavsaner . Yavsaner sometimes uses the name as his pseudonym. Characteristic of his appearance are the large area dark beard with mustache and the mono brow .

biography

The fictional character Müslüm first became known through her telephone jokes. It was created as part of the program Semih Supreme Show , which Yavsaner presented on the free Radio Bern RaBe from 2008-09 . The name Müslüm resulted from the search for a Turkish counterpart to the Swiss fictional character Ueli the servant . In his telephone jokes, Müslüm satirically reduced the common stereotypes of the migrant population about crime and educational gaps to absurdity.

When the private radio Planet 105 in Zurich expressed interest in the telephone jokes, Semih Yavsaner changed the station. However, due to differences in copyright law, the collaboration was discontinued at the end of June 2010.

For the first time, Müslüm gained national fame in the run-up to the vote to close the autonomous cultural center Bernese Reitschule in summer 2010. With the video clip Erich, why are you not honest? he made fun of the then Bernese SVP parliamentary group president Erich Hess . The song was published on the sampler Reitschule beatet more . With the sampler, 22 well-known Bernese musicians, including Züri West and Steff la Cheffe , campaigned for the maintenance of the riding school. The right-wing conservative Association of Tax Payers threatened the radio and remote stations with a lawsuit if they broadcast songs from the sampler because, in its opinion, they contained political advertising. The video clip Erich broke on YouTube , why aren't you honest? all previous Swiss records. Shortly after it was published, it was ranked 35th most viewed post worldwide. In total, it has been viewed more than 2.3 million times. The song was finally released under the Sound Service label and made it to number 46 on the Swiss charts . Three record companies showed interest in a CD. On November 29, 2010, Müslüm released the single Samichlaus on the Sound Service label . In it, he took the former SVP - National Christoph Mörgeli targeted. The focus was on the SVP deportation initiative . Due to its political content, the single was hardly played by any Swiss private radio. Nevertheless, it made it to number 18 on the Swiss charts.

In December 2010, provided Muslum in the program Club of Swiss Television SRF stir when he took publicly prominent exponents of the Swiss People's Party SVP targeted.

In June 2011, Müslüm implemented the city tour project in collaboration with the Bernese director Meret Matter and the independent Bernese theater group Club 111 , taking the participants on a tour of the Bernese agglomerations that are far from tourism.

On May 25, 2012, Müslüm released his first album, Süpervitamin . In terms of content, he relies on “less aggression and more love” through love therapy with the rainbow-colored happiness drug , super vitamin , which also made the socially critical note more restrained. Although the album again had little airplay on Swiss private radio stations , it reached number 3 on the Swiss album charts. The video clip for the title song Süpervitamin advanced to become the most watched music video in Switzerland to date. The song Orang Utan from the album - better known as Ich bin ein Ausländer, ein Immigrant - was featured in the 2013 film credits in the German-Turkish comedy 300 Words German by Züli Aladağ .

In 2013, Müslüm was nominated for the Swiss Music Awards in the newcomer category Best Breaking Act National . In the same year he won the 2013 award for the integration of the migrant population of the city of Bern.

In 2013, Müslüms one-immigrant show Süper-Immigrant was planned in the Schlachthaus Theater Bern , but it had to be canceled twice due to a disc operation. In the same year, Müslüm, in collaboration with the Swiss multimedia artist Frantiček Klossner, produced a video version of his fairy tale collection Ali Baba and the 40 art critics .

In May 2014, Müslüm played a concert in the large migrant stable of the Olten Cabaret Days , which was explicitly reserved for artists with a so-called migration background.

On February 5, 2015, Müslüm presented his second album, Apochalüpt . Semih Yavsaner created another fictional character, Apochalüpt , which he describes as "the opponent of mueslum, gloomy antagonists and the personified apocalypse".

The single La Bambele was nominated for the Swiss Music Awards 2016 in the Best Hit category. It was there that Müslüm was nominated in the Best Male Solo Act category. The album made it to number 1 on the Swiss charts .

In December 2015, Müslüm took part in the event Every centime counts from the Swiss fundraising campaign “ Glückskette” on the Bundesplatz in Bern .

From April 1, 2016, Müslüm received his own TV show Müslüm TV on Swiss radio and television SRF 1 . According to SRF, Müslüm had the task of "winning over foreign viewers for Swiss television" and "tearing down the cultural walls between migrants and Swiss." On October 28, 2016, the second season followed with another 4 episodes of Müslüm TV .

In July 2016, Müslüm was a guest at the European Biennale for Contemporary Art Manifesta 11. In the run-up, his appearance at the University of Zurich caused a stir in the media, which the historian Kijan Espahangizi explained by saying "that a conversation, even the mere presence of secondos at a Swiss university, still has the potential to irritate."

In September 2017, Müslüm advocated less meat consumption at the meat festival of the Swiss Association of Beef Cattle Breeders by selling vegan Dürüm on the Bundesplatz.

Müslüm's first stage program appeared in December 2019 with the cabaret piece "MÜsteriÜM - a dramaturkish odyssey". It was specially conceived for the cabaret and included an acrobatic word-acrobatic, philosophical examination of the absurdities and sensibilities of language, accompanied by bizarre snapshots from everyday immigrant life. The piece was musically accompanied by the Bernese guitarist Raphael Jakob.

Müslüm as a fictional character deals with the complex world of experience of the migrant population in the majority society. By means of exaggerated stereotyping, he plays with the common, prejudiced notions of the "foreigner", supported by his specially created language, "migrant". At the same time, Müslüm pursues an emancipatory approach in that he uses his humorous, naive demeanor to expose political and sociocultural problem areas, prejudices and xenophobia. By breaking through hierarchies and role models, he challenges responsible authorities and institutions. Appearance, appearances and lyrics always fluctuate between open provocation and subtle accusation of the general social conditions.

His music is often referred to as "immigrant pop". With a mixture of commercial, western pop music and oriental sounds, multiculturalism is the focus not only in terms of content, but also musically .
