Swiss Solidarity

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Solidarity ( French Chaîne du Bonheur , Italian Catena della Solidarietà , English Swiss Solidarity ) is a Swiss fund-raising organization.

history

Swiss Solidarity was originally a radio broadcast in western Switzerland on the national broadcaster Sottens , which collected donations for the benefit of disaster and war victims. It was brought into being in 1946, when Europe was marked by World War II, by radio producers Roger Nordmann and Paul Valloton and the entertainer Jack Rollan . It has had the legal form of a foundation since 1983 .

Projects

Swiss Solidarity collects donations for humanitarian aid projects. To this end, it works with the Swiss Radio and Television Company (SRG SSR) and Swiss aid agencies. Swiss Solidarity benefits from the special support provided by public radio and television and also works with private media. It does not simply distribute money, but finances aid projects from experienced Swiss relief organizations in immediate and rehabilitation aid as well as sustainable reconstruction.

Both immediate and emergency aid as well as longer-term projects for repair ( rehabilitation ) and reconstruction are supported. For emergency aid, action and decisions are made as quickly and unbureaucratically as possible. Special project commissions have been set up to examine, approve and monitor long-term projects.

Collections

Since the foundation of the Swiss Solidarity Foundation in 1983, more than a billion donations have been collected to this day. The five largest collections concerned two natural disasters and a war abroad and two storms in Switzerland.

In 2010, projects for “Children as Victims of War and Conflict” were supported and in 2011, “Mothers in Need” were raised. In 2012 the fundraising campaign took place for the fourth time.
