The Mole - Who can you trust? is a German reality game show in which the participants try to make money in various physical and mental tasks. It is based on the Belgian format De Mol , which is marketed internationally under The Mole . A German edition was broadcast on ProSieben from 2000 to 2001 under the title Der Maulwurf - Die Abenteuershow .

The new edition of the German edition started on May 6, 2020 on Sat.1 and was moderated by The BossHoss . The show was shot in Argentina in October and November 2019.

The title is derived from the English word for mole , a metaphorical expression for a saboteur in one's own ranks.

concept

In each episode, the participants have to collect as much money as possible for the jackpot in three activity and brain games . This will be paid to the remaining winner at the end of the season. However, one of the ten participants is "The Mole" ("The Mole") and tries to sabotage the tasks. This is supported by the producers. The mole must act carefully because it must not be recognized by the other participants. The other participants have to use the games to find out who the mole is. On the other hand, they can also cast suspicion on themselves to confuse the others and thus increase their own chances of winning, because at the end of each episode the participants have to answer twenty questions about the mole. The more you know about him, the greater the chance of getting into the final and winning the jackpot. At the end of each episode, the participant who knew the least about the mole is eliminated.

If he doesn't succeed, the group receives 500 euros for each white puzzle piece they have collected. The group is divided into three teams, each with a different means of transport (horses, car, helicopter). The car team caught the runner shortly before the finish. However, due to a deal between the runner and the team, Yves as well as Silvia, Colleen and Martin each receive four jokers. Therefore, the large group did not receive any money for the jackpot. 2,000 euros (or 4,000 euros in the case of a doubling deal) would have been possible.	0 €
	2	Bodega Quara, Salta Province, Argentina	In The Winery game , the group has to fill eight Plexiglas tubes with wine so that they each earn a key. The film titles are on other boxes hidden in the vineyard. These contain empty wine bottles, which in turn have to be filled with red or white wine depending on the type of wine. Due to salmonella poisoning, Jessica and Wolfgang were unable to take part in the game, and Aaron and Silvia were only partially able to participate. The game was based on a relay race in which a team had to ride to a task and start at least one round. The round could be canceled at any time in order to ride back to the start and finish point to send the next team off there. Each game had a different number of rounds and different amounts of money per round won. The game was limited to 90 minutes and the elapsed time was only reported at the start and finish points. After 90 minutes the third team had to have started and stopped their game and be back at the finish. Otherwise any money earned would be lost. Team 1 consisted of Samara, Paula and Yves. Your task was to mark the number of cattle sitting on a horse with color, which was rolled beforehand. There was 500 euros per round, with a maximum of four rounds in total. If all four rounds were played successfully, the pot won in this game was doubled from 2,000 euros to 4,000 euros. Paula rolled a twelve in the first round and Yves was allowed to mark. In the second round, Paula rolled a seven and Samara marked. The third time she rolled a nine. The group therefore decided to stop after the second round and return to the start and finish point. The first team needed 45 minutes for their game. Team 2 consisted of Aaron and Yves. Yves replaced Jessica here. She fell off the horse in the first game of the second episode and was therefore allowed to sit out. The task was to play the game “Who am I” in Spanish. There was a Spanish dictionary to help. Both decided to abandon the game and returned after 25 minutes. Team 3 consisted of Colleen, Wolfgang and Martin. Your task was to solve a letter puzzle and then to throw a horseshoe at a pole for each puzzle solved. If the stake was hit, the group received 300 euros. 7th	4th	Cerrillos Station, Salta Province, Argentina	For the last game in the series, the entire amount of money won in the jackpot was distributed over six suitcases. Two other suitcases had allocated an amount of € 0. The candidates should assign suitcases to each other. If a candidate were assigned a suitcase with an amount of money and that candidate was eliminated from the program, this amount of money would be removed from the jackpot. Each team had to solve a task at a subway stop and after they had solved it boarded a subway line H in which Alec and Sascha rode. These drove in a subway from the “Venezuela” stop past the corresponding three stops one behind the other. They got off at the fourth stop “Parque Patricious”. Meanwhile, the lone fighter had to walk the distance on the surface faster than the subway to get to the fourth stop before Sascha and Alec. Only when the candidates arrived at the goal with Sascha and Alec and the lone fighter was already waiting at the goal did they get the earned money. There were 3,000 (station 1, station Humberto 1), 2,000 (station 2, station Inclan) and 1,000 euros (station 3, station Caseros), a total of 6,000 euros. Team 1 at Station 1 consisted of Yves and Samara. Her job was to sort suitcases with city names in ascending order of their distance from Buenos Aires. This task was solved incorrectly and the 3,000 euros were gambled away. Team 2 at Station 2 consisted of Jessica and Colleen. They had to solve the game of “hot wire”, in which a metal ring must be led around a wire from start to finish without touching the ring. Within two minutes, a musician played 14 songs on a keyboard, of which they had to guess ten. This task was not accomplished either and the 1,000 euros were gambled away. The lone fighter was Aaron. Meanwhile, they drove on a roller coaster and had to pantomime the letters in front of the snapshot camera. Based on these photos, Yves and Martin had to recognize the letters and form a word from them. The word found had to be looked up in a lexicon to find the code based on the page number. Despite two incorrectly transmitted letters by Aaron, Yves and Martin managed to find the correct word "sabotage" and the corresponding code, and 3,000 euros went into the jackpot.	€ 3,000

They were free to design the program and also use the songs to signal whether the team was on the right track or was wrong with their assumption. Team 1 had pictures of the landmarks to help. The first landmark to be found was the Puente de la Mujer (Women's Bridge). This and the corresponding piano rolls were found with the help of the songs " Over seven bridges you must go " interpreted by Peter Maffay and "Water under the Bridge" by Adele . The second La Recoleta landmark to be found was a cemetery. The songs played were "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence and "Bury a friend" by Billie Eilish . The landmark and both piano rolls were found. The last landmark to be found was the Floralis Genérica. This landmark and the piano rolls were found with the help of the songs "Lotus Flower" by Tobee . The piano rolls found contained sheet music with well-known songs. They had to use a stand-up paddle to get into the water and bring the lifebuoy to the bank. Each correct ring brought in € 1,000. Eight rings were possible and the time limit was 30 minutes. The question was whether Martin leaves the room or lets himself be massaged by it. Aaron was of the opinion that Martin allows this and stays in the room and was wrong. The faster team also got a single joker and a glimpse into Jessica's mole cam. Both teams found someone, the person on the team with Martin and Aaron was faster. The one who could list the most items also got the written records of a remaining candidate and his own back. Those whose records were not selected by the winner also got them back. The media journalist Alexander Krei wrote on DWDL.de that the audience was well entertained. The first episode offers an amazing amount of variety and excitement. You have a touch of Breaking Bad . David Grzeschik from Oddsmeter.de is also of the opinion that the show is more reminiscent of a fictional series. The camera settings and cuts created very strong images. Due to the professional implementation, however, the show seems strange and over-staged. The boundaries between reality and fiction are so indistinct on the show that the viewer will at some point wonder what is still real in the end.

Furthermore, Krei criticizes the English original title, which is used in the new edition. The term seems like a foreign body. The German name would have been easier to understand, especially since the contributors constantly use the English word for mole.

Ingo Scheel summed up the first episode with “a lot of idle time, some scenic atmosphere, two moderators on duty according to regulations and the usual thickening of show events with excessive gossip talk and committed intrigues”. Only at the end is the viewer encouraged to continue watching with a cliffhanger .
