Etienne Cèdric "Eddy" Gardé (born December 8, 1978 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German television presenter , author and comedian . He has hosted The Show , Screen, and Late Knights . From 2009 to 2011 he was editor and from 2011 to 2014 host of the computer and video game program Game One . Gardé is a co-founder of the media production company Rocket Beans Entertainment GmbH and a presenter at their station Rocket Beans TV .

Life

Etienne Gardé was born on December 8, 1978, the son of a French and art teacher and a gynecologist. He has a sister. His paternal grandparents, Irena and Adam Gardé, belonged to the so-called Schindler Jews and only barely survived the Auschwitz concentration camp .

In 1998 he passed his Abitur in Frankfurt. After studying sports science and American studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, which he did not graduate, he completed internships in media companies and advertising agencies. Later he began to study law , which he did not graduate, after which he studied media economics at the Rheinische Fachhochschule Cologne in 2007 .

Work at GIGA

Etienne Gardé was part of the founding team of GIGA Games and was there from the first broadcast on November 30, 2000. In addition to Hannes Appell and later Felix Rick , he was a network reporter on the “ PC ” channel . In October 2003 he launched the eSports division at GIGA Games and switched from the PC division to eSports. During this time he also wrote columns for PC Action for a while . From November 1, 2004 he was a network reporter for the GIGA eSports program , and he also moderated all so-called GrandSlams without exception.

After ESL joined GIGA, he left the GIGA eSports team after initially retiring to the eSports Talk. In mid-July 2006 he got his own late night show called Late Knights with Nils Bomhoff , which ran every Thursday. He also moderated Tuesdays at 20:00 the DVD and film magazine Screen .

Shortly before the broadcasting operations were discontinued in March 2009, he quit after 9 years to go to Game One in Hamburg. According to his own statements, he knew nothing of the imminent end of the station at the time of the termination. He worked for Bunch TV until September 2010 as a presenter for the cinema and DVD magazine Seen together with Colin Gäbel . The format was picked up by Animax and AXN in March 2011 and renamed Uncut - Das Filmmagazin and ended in 2012.

In September 2009 he joined Game One as an editor together with Nils Bomhoff . His former colleagues Daniel Budiman and Simon Krätschmer already worked on the show . In 2011 he started his moderation at Game One . In October 2011 he co-founded the television production company Rocket Beans Entertainment GmbH and was responsible for the production and editorial content of the show. The company is based in Hamburg and replaced the previous production company Riesenbuhei Entertainment GmbH. On December 22nd, 2014 Viacom announced the cancellation of the show after 8 years of production, the last new episode aired on TV a day later.

From April 2009 to October 2010 he and his colleagues wrote on DerWesten.de for the Bomgard & Budimon column .

In September 2013 he and Nils Bomhoff took over the web hosting for the first season of Celebrity Big Brother .

In 2018 he had a cameo on the comedy series jerks.

Worked for Rocket Beans TV

In 2012, Rocket Beans Entertainment GmbH founded its own YouTube channel Rocket Beans TV . There Gardé moderated the talk format Almost Daily and the film format Kino + particularly often . In 2014 the channel received the German Web Video Award for one of the videos .

After Game One was discontinued , the company decided to transfer the concept of the YouTube channel to a daily broadcaster. On January 15, 2015, the station with the name Rocket Beans TV was launched and from then on broadcast program content on the streaming portal Twitch and, since September 1, 2016, on YouTube. In June 2015, the station was awarded the 2015 Web Video Prize for its services over the past year.

Gardé moderates individual formats on topics such as computer games and football. He was a co-presenter on the show Bohn Jour , and nowadays he also plays the same role in Kino + magazine . He is also a regular host of the talk format Almost Daily and the morning show #MoinMoin . On Mondays he moderates the football magazine Bohndesliga .

Podcast

Since February 2018 he has been producing the podcast without a (real) name together with George Zaal and Jochen Dominicus . The episodes appear on a weekly basis and are usually around 1 hour and 30 minutes long.

German television award 2017

On February 2, 2017, Etienne Gardé (as part of Rocket Beans ) was awarded the German Television Prize in the category “Best Moderation Entertainment”.

Private

Gardé is married and has two sons. He lives in Hamburg.
