Late Knights was an entertainment show on GIGA television . The show was moderated by Nils Bomhoff and Etienne Gardé , produced by GIGA Digital Television GmbH.

construction

The program consisted of different sections, which varied greatly in their regularity and duration. The two moderators commented on current events, for example, which recently took up less space.

In addition, numerous campaigns encouraged viewers to take part in the program: For example, some of the emails sent were read out and answered in the program, and there were also various campaigns. Finally, the audience was asked to use the graphics program Paint to draw a superhero who beats the one given. At the end, rarely in the middle, there was also a musical guest on each edition.

Other categories included the Knight of the Week award , which was given weekly to a personality who, in the opinion of the moderators, had shaped the events of the past week and Late Knights vs. , in which the moderators opposed certain groups.

Studio

The Late Knights studio should embody a living room atmosphere. It essentially consisted of an old-fashioned set of upholstered furniture, a coffee table and a few accessories. In the first season, spectators were also present in the studio, but this was discontinued from the second season.

Special programs

On May 1, 2007, a special called My Descent was broadcast. The topic was the moderators' favorite football clubs, which were at risk of relegation at the time. Following the great interest of the audience on the first poker Special April 5, was organized on June 1, 2007, the Knights Poker , in which several moderators of the transmitter using two spectators were playing poker .

history

The premiere broadcast was on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 11:59 pm. Despite its great success, the format disappeared from the program for an indefinite period after just a few issues. The reason given was financial problems.

The second season started on March 22, 2007 as part of the new GIGA Prime Time . This brought the broadcasting time forward to 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Strictly speaking, the show was no longer a late night show . However, it was decided, not least because of the play on words from “Late Night (-Show)” and “Late Knights”, to keep the name.

After the end of the second season, episodes of the first and second seasons were repeated from July 19 to October 11, 2007. From October 18, 2007, the third season ran.

Due to the new GIGA program structure, the programs of the fourth season were only 30 minutes long and were broadcast on Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. from August 21, 2008. On October 4, 2008, the program was postponed to Saturday and last ran at 11 p.m.

After the announcement of the shutdown of the TV station GIGA in February 2009, no new episodes were produced, and reruns were still running until the end of March 2009.

criticism

In May 2008 the Evangelical Press Service criticized the presentation of campaigns by the beverage manufacturer Coca-Cola in the program in an article about product placement . Coca-Cola was not named here as a sponsor of the show and the performance was not clearly separated from the editorial part. GIGA denied these allegations and stated that they had not been paid to report.
