history
Fucked Up was founded in 2001 by Mike Haliechuk alias 10,000 Marbles (guitar), Josh Zucker alias Concentration Camp / Gulag (guitar), Sandy Miranda alias Mustard Gas (bass) and Chris Colohan (drums), who soon left the band . Shortly before the first demo recordings, Damian Abraham alias Pink Eyes (vocals) and Jonah Falco alias Mr Jo (drums) joined the band. Falco also plays with Haliechuk in the band Career Suicide . Fucked Up toured primarily in and around Toronto and released a number of singles and EPs, some of which were summarized in 2004 on the self-released CD Epics In Minutes .
In 2005 David Eliade took over the management of the band. He is also responsible for the design and layout, works on the lyrics and is referred to by the band as an official member, although he does almost no public appearances and does not play an instrument. Eliade brokered a record deal with the small label Jade Tree Records , on which the 2006 debut album Hidden World was released. In the same year Fucked Up went on a European tour for the first time. At the beginning of 2007, the first TV appearance on MTV followed , in which turbulent audience reactions caused considerable property damage, as well as on a second MTV appearance in autumn 2008.
In 2007 Ben Cook, aka Young Governor, joined the band as the third guitarist.
In 2008 the band signed a contract with Matador Records and released their second studio album, The Chemistry Of Common Life . The album made the band known to a wider audience and in 2009 was awarded the Polaris Prize, the highest Canadian music award, in the "Best Album" category.
In 2009 the band released a cover version of Do They Know It's Christmas? on which u. a. Bob Mold , GZA , Yo La Tengo , Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend and Kevin Drew from Broken Social Scene performed .
In 2011, the third studio album, David Comes To Life , was released, a rock opera set in Great Britain during Margaret Thatcher's reign . The album received numerous positive reviews and brought Fucked Up to the American and British album charts for the first time . The limited edition album David's Town was also released , allegedly a documentation of the music scene in the fictional British town of Byrdesdale Spa in the seventies, but in reality it was completely recorded by Fucked Up and a few guest musicians, including Danko Jones and Dylan Baldi from Cloud Nothings .
In 2012 Fucked Up with David Comes To Life was nominated again for the Polaris Prize, but lost to the singer Feist with her album Metals .
The fourth studio album Glass Boys was released in 2014 .
