Career Suicide is a Canadian hardcore band from Toronto, founded in 2001 .
history
The band Career Suicide was founded in 2001 in the Canadian city of Toronto by some musicians who had played in various smaller projects for a long time. Guitarist Jonah Falco and bassist Mike Haliechuk played in the band Fucked Up since 2001 .
Two first demo tapes and the group's debut album of the same name followed a year after the group was founded. In addition to an EP , a tour followed in 2003 that took the band through Europe. During this time there were many line-up changes. Mike Haliechuk also left the band.
After some EPs were released in 2004 and two tours of the band through Japan - one in 2005, the other a year later - work on a new album began in winter 2006.
At the end of 2007, Attempted Suicide, the band's second album, was released on Deranged Records, which received great acclaim and good reviews in Canada and internationally. Brendan Ferrell, who previously played for Government Warning and Direct Control , was the new drummer on this album and gave the band the final touches.
It wasn't until 2008 that a summer tour followed through the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as the EP Cherry Beach .
style
The group's style can be best described as fast, rough hardcore and punk in the style of hardcore bands of the early 1980s. While the influence of simpler punk rock could be heard more clearly in the earlier recordings, newer releases are more clearly assigned to the style of early US hardcore.
The sound is often compared with early hardcore groups such as Angry Samoans , The Freeze , Germs or Jerry's Kids .
In a 2007 interview, Martin Farkas said of the band's relationship to hardcore and punk:
"I think the line between what is punk and what is hardcore is really thin ... a good rule of thumb for me has always been, 'if it's not punk, it's not hardcore' [...]"
