Killer Be Killed is an American hardcore punk - and thrash metal - Supergroup , which in 2011 under the name or Killer Be Killed was founded.

history

The band was founded in 2011 by Max Cavalera together with singer and guitarist Greg Puciato , who otherwise worked for The Dillinger Escape Plan . Both knew each other from a benefit concert for Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who died in 2013 . They both started talking about recording an album. In addition, Puciato was a guest musician on Soulfly's album Omen . After three days of rehearsals, they recorded a first demo before bassist and singer Troy Sanders and drummer Dave Elitch (ex- The Mars Volta ) joined them. The initial name Kill or Be Killed then became Killer Be Killed. Nate Newton from Converge was also involved in the project. However, he could not continue to participate because he was already involved in too many other projects. The group then recorded their self-titled debut album at Fortress Studios in Los Angeles with producer Josh Wilbur . Nuclear Blast then became aware of the band and released the album in 2014.

For live performances in early 2015, Converge drummer Ben Koller replaced Elitch, who was on tour with the band Antemasque at the same time . The group made their first appearance at the Soundwave Festival in February, where Elitch also performed with Antemasque. It was not possible for him to perform with both bands at the festival. In March, a music video for the song Curb Crusher was released .

style

According to laut.de , Puciato stated that they tried to play a mixture of Black Sabbath- heavy Doom Metal , Thrash Metal , Hardcore Punk and Punk . In an interview between Max Cavalera and Chris Karadimitris from noisefull.com , Cavalera described that the idea of having three singers in the band came about through the punk band The Transplants , which also had three singers. Cavalera wrote 90% of the material, wrote the riffs and played the rhythm guitar completely. He did more guitar work than at Sepultura or Soulfly. The songs Save the Robots and Forbidden Fire were written by Sanders. For Uli Brechtold from laut.de , the mixture of the three different chants was particularly characteristic. There are mainly influences from Thrash Metal and Hardcore Punk, but also Doom Metal. The lyrics would deal with the fight against internal demons as well as violence and terrorism .
