Deaf Havana is a British alternative rock band from Norfolk .
Band history
Ryan Mellor, James Veck-Gilodi and Lee Wilson had known each other musically since high school. Together they then also attended college in the small town of King's Lynn in eastern England , where they met Sebastian Spitz and Tom Ogden and joined forces in 2005 as Deaf Havana . After some self-produced releases, they signed a record deal with the label A Wolf at Your Door in 2008 and first released the EP It's Called the Easy Life and the following year their debut album Meet Me Halfway, at Least . They also toured all over the country and performed in the rest of Europe.
Before another album was released, lead singer Mellor had to give up for personal reasons. James Veck-Gilodi, who was originally the singer when the band was founded, took over his position with Fools and Worthless Liars , published in 2011 . The album first brought the band into the UK charts . They also released an acoustic version of the album and unplugged appearances, including at the Union Chapel in London, followed.
Before the next album, there were other changes to the line-up: The guitars were re-cast and Max Britton was added as the sixth member on the piano. Musically, too, the band changed their style away from the rocky beginnings to more deliberate pop-rock. The album Old Souls was released in 2013 and entered the top 10 of the UK charts.
After the release there was tension in the band, which led to the departure of guitarist Chris Pennels. The impending dissolution was avoided and the remaining five members continued together. However, four years passed before the fourth studio album, All These Countless Nights , was released in January 2017 . It reached number 5 on the charts.
On December 28, 2018, keyboardist and background vocalist Max Britton announced that he was leaving the band due to health problems.
