King Parrot is an Australian grindcore and sludge metal band.
Band history
King Parrot was founded in 2010 by Matthew Young (vocals), Ari White (guitar), Ed Bourke-Lacey (guitar), Matthew Slattery (bass) and Mat Rizzo (drums). In 2011 the extended play The Stench of Hardcore Pub Trash was released . The band then recorded their debut album, Bite Your Head Off , which was self-released in 2012. It was re-released worldwide by Candlelight Records in 2013 . In 2012, the two founding members Rizzo and Bourke-Lacey left. For Rizzo came Matt Sanders, who had already played execution in Damaged and Sadistics . Andrew Livingstone-Squires joined the band as the second guitarist.
In 2013 the band played as support for Obituary , Carcass and Thy Art Is Murder in Australia. King Parrot then performed at the Soundwave Festival , the Hammersonic Jakarta International Metal Festival in Indonesia and the South by Southwest 2014. While on tour in the USA, the band signed a management deal with Extreme Management Group and was interviewed by Phil Anselmo for his YouTube channel Housecore Records. Anselmo also starred in her music video for Like a Rat .
In June 2014 Sanders left the band and was replaced by Todd Hansen (ex- The Berzerker and ex- Headkase ). In 2015 her second album Dead Set was released on the Australian label EVP Recordings, which reached number 21 in the Australian charts. For the album, the group was nominated for an ARIA Award for "Best Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Album". The British Metal Hammer also nominated the band for their Golden Gods Award as "Best New Band".
