The Berzerker is an Australian grindcore / death metal band from Melbourne .
history
The band was founded in 1995 as a solo project by Luke Kenny . At first the members were only named after their instrument ("The Drummer", "The Guitarist" etc.) and wore masks on stage. Between 1995 and 1998 various singles and EPs were released on the Australian independent label Industrial Strength. In 1998 the group was signed by Earache Records , and in 2000 their self-titled debut album was released. To the song Reality one was music video rotated, the by MTV because of verschreckenden and for epileptics was boycotted dangerous presentation. After a tour of the USA , the second album Dissimulate was released in 2002 , on which Corporal Jigsore Quandary was a cover version of the British extreme metal band Carcass . At the Earache Christmas Party in late 2003, the drunken members of the band played an extremely violent performance, a recording of which was released in 2004 on the DVD The Principles and Practices of The Berzerker . The DVD also contained all the material recorded by the band in its previous existence. At that time The Berzerker decided to perform without masks in the future. About Christmas 2004, the band recorded the third album in the line-up that had already recorded the debut album. The recordings of the album took place without a drummer and the band did not use guitar amplifiers, but picked up the tones directly on the mixer. World of Lies was released in January 2006. In mid-2006, work began on the follow-up album Animosity , which was released in February 2007. The record cover was the result of a competition won by French underground artist Adrien Bousson. The so far last album The Reawakening was released in July 2008, after which the contract with Earache Records ended. The band announced a new studio album in August 2009, but this has not yet been released. The band took a break for an indefinite period. According to the band's official Facebook pages and Luke Kenny, The Berzerker have been back from hiatus since early 2020 and are expected to release a new studio album in March 2020 after twelve years.
style
The music is described as a mixture of speedcore , gabber , drum and bass , cybergrind , death metal and grindcore . The riffs are based on bands like Carcass , the vocals are heavily alienated and the music is mixed with samples , electronic beats and noise elements.
