Butcher Babies is an American groove metal band from Los Angeles . The band is under contract with Century Media and has released three studio albums to date.
history
The band was founded in 2009 by the singers Carla Harvey and Heidi Shepherd. Both previously worked as TV and radio presenters for the Playboy group and met in an all-female punk band . After this broke up, the musicians founded the band Butcher Babies together with guitarist Henry Flury ( Amen ), bassist Jason Klein ( Azdacho ) and drummer Chris Warner ( Scars of Tomorrow ). The band name comes from the song Butcher Baby by the band Plasmatics .
The band released their first single Blonde Girls All Look the Same in 2011 and the EP Butcher Babies a year later . The latter was produced by Andrew Murdock, who has already worked with bands like Godsmack or Avenged Sevenfold . At the end of 2012 the band was signed by Century Media. This was followed by a North American tour supporting Marilyn Manson before the band recorded their debut album Goliath with producer Josh Wilbur .
The album was released in the US in July 2013 and reached number 107 on the US album charts . The Butcher Babies took part in the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour and shared the stage with bands like Five Finger Death Punch , Machine Head or Amon Amarth . Goliath was finally released in Europe in January 2014.
style
The music of the Butcher Babies is categorized differently in the trade press. It is called Nu Metal , Groove Metal , Thrash Metal or Modern Metal. In the early days, the band called their style Slut Metal ( English for slut metal ). Matthias Weckmann from the German magazine Metal Hammer criticized in his review of Goliath that “two pairs of breasts should replace musical arguments in vain” and added that the album “sounded more like marketing than metal”.
