Raised Fist is a 1993 founded hardcore punk - band from Luleå , Sweden .
history
The name is derived from the Rage Against the Machine song Know Your Enemy , which says: Born with an insight and a raised fist . In 1993 the musicians Alexander Hagman, Petri Rönnberg, Peson, Andreas Johansson and Peter Karlsson got together and founded the band "Raised Fist". Before the band had even released a CD, they signed a recording deal with Burning Heart Records . This was followed by the 1994 debut - EP You're Not Like Me .
In the following two years the two guitarists Petri Rönnberg and Peson left the band and were replaced by Marco Eronen ( The Duskfall ). On June 3, 1996, the second EP Stronger Than Ever followed . In the same year drummer Peter Karlsson left the band. With his successor Oskar Karlsson, the debut album Fuel was released on December 9, 1998 . Another two years later, the second album Ignoring the Guidelines was released .
After this severe setback, producer Daniel Bergstrand took the band under his protégés. In the meantime, the album Watch Your Step was released , which contained the songs from the two EPs You're Not Like Me and Stronger Than Ever . A year later Dedication was released , produced by Daniel Bergstrand with the support of former Misery Loves Co. band member Örjan Örnkloo. Daniel also plays the second guitar on the album. The album itself had fewer hardcore elements, but there were clear industrial features to be heard.
After "Raised Fist" declined an invitation to Ozzfest , the band fell silent. Marco Eronen and Oskar Karlsson changed bands in the meantime and also played with "The Duskfall", whereby Oskar then stopped completely with "Raised Fist". After Matte Modin stood in for Oskar, Sound of the Republic finally appeared on April 10, 2006, after a 4-year period of rest , which no longer had any industrial influences. Instead, the band went back to the typical hardcore and let more rock elements flow in. After the great success with the album and a permanent band line-up, "Raised Fist" toured across Europe . Among other things with Bridge To Solace through Germany.
In 2009 their 5th studio album, Veil of Ignorance , was released, like its predecessors, under Burning Heart Records. Like its predecessors, the album contains a lot of brutal hardcore songs, but Alexander "Alle" Hagman sings some songs with clear vocals, which is rather untypical for the band.
On January 19, 2015, the album From The North was released , the release of which was followed by an extensive European tour.
The album Anthems was released in November 2019.
style
Especially in the years of the EP You're Not Like Me , the band's style is still strong on classic hardcore punk forms and especially on the so-called Youth Crew style of Gorilla Biscuits , Youth of Today but also on bands like Sick of It All Oriented: Short Songs; Fast, driving rhythms, interrupted by short mid-tempo intermediate parts and / or intros / outros; Hardcore / punk typical guitar riffs, which are supplemented by one or the other more melodic chord progression as well as a pissed off, somewhat screaming, less melodic voice shaped the image of the group.
In the years that followed, the band's sound became more and more aggressive, brutal and metallic - especially from the year 2000 onwards: more and more pounding mid-tempo rhythms of the drums came to the fore. The guitar riffs seem coarse and are more oriented towards rock and metal . Longer songs as well as more complex song structures with more complicated rhythm changes are becoming more and more defining. In addition, the singer's voice changes to aggressive screaming and roaring - sometimes even the typical Metal growl . In between there are still typical - but due to the change in style, much darker and more aggressive sounding - faster parts. In addition, more atmospheric and experimental elements are being incorporated.
At Green Hell , the style of the band in the context of the 2006 album Sound of the Republic was described as follows:
"The" [...] basic structure still remains rock-hard, super-fast Hardcore with a metal edge and the stoic-looking, ostensibly monotonous vocals, which, however, turn out to be highly aggressive and hard hittin 'in the long-term test and seem like a hail shower that is constantly pounding down on the head .
