The Duskfall is a melodic death metal band from Luleå , Sweden . The main characteristic of the band's music is the mixture of intense guitar solos, power metal melodies and death metal / thrash metal riffs.

Band history

The band was founded in 1999 by guitarist Mikael Sandorf after his old band Gates of Ishtar broke up. In the early years, the band, which was originally called "Soulash", struggled with several line-up changes. Only when Sandorf was able to hire his former bandmate Oskar Karlsson as drummer did the line-up stabilize.

In the summer of 2001, the band's first demo, Deliverance , appeared . A short time later, the band signed a record deal with the Greek company Black Lotus . In spring 2002 the debut album Frailty was recorded. With Daniel Bergstrand, a well-known producer who has already worked for bands like In Flames and Meshuggah was hired. After the release of Frailty , Joachim Lindbäck joined the band as a second guitarist.

Again the band went to Bergstrands dug-out studio to record the second album Source . Source was released in December 2003 and received rave reviews across Europe. The cast carousel continued to turn: Kaj Molin and Joachim Lindbäck left the band. With Antti Lindholm and Marco Eronen, however, a replacement was quickly found.

The following year the band was able to sign a contract with Nuclear Blast . In the fall of 2005, Lifetime Supply of Guilt was the band's third album. On the same day, Nuclear Blast released a double CD with the two previous albums released by Black Lotus, each of which was supplemented by three demo recordings.

In September 2006 Marco Eronen left the band because he wanted to concentrate on his band Raised Fist . He has been replaced by Matte Järnil. On October 26, 2007, the current album The Dying Wonders of the World was released.

In August 2008 the band announced their breakup due to the departure of guitarist Mikael Sandorf. Mikael's comment on his decision:

“The time has come for me to leave The Duskfall after 9 years. I've been breathing, sleeping, and thinking about this decision for a long time. I've had many good and happy times with the rest of the guys, but keeping this band alive has made some sacrifices on my personal life. I feel that we managed to write and record four great albums together, but for me now it's time to move on. I want to thank everyone who took part in this journey, especially all the fans who supported us over those years! You are great! I feel like there's a lot of creativity around the next corner and I already have plans for what's next; so be patient and get ready for my next adventure. Love // Mike "

In 2014 the band announced their reunion on a newly established Facebook page. However, only guitarist Mikael Sandorf remains, the remaining members are newly selected. The singer of the band is Magnus Klavborn, former singer of the band Engel .
