Holy Grail ( Engl. , Holy Grail ') is an American heavy metal band from Pasadena .

history

Foundation and Crisis in Utopia (2008 to 2010)

The band was founded in 2008 and was called Sorcerer for a short time. James-Paul Luna, James J. LaRue and Tyler Meahl had previously played together in the band White Wizzard , which they left in a dispute with band founder Jon Leon. A year later Holy Grail released the EP Improper Burial as CD and vinyl record . While the vinyl version only contains two original compositions, the CD version also features two cover versions: Exciter by Judas Priest and Fast as a Shark by Accept . The cover of this publication is by Ed Repka .

Holy Grail played their first concerts in autumn 2009 as opening act for concerts by the bands Children of Bodom , Enforcer and 3 Inches of Blood . The latter also accompanied the band on their US tour in November and December. In April 2010 a US tour followed with Amon Amarth and Eluveitie and Týr . With Rise to Remain , the band played their first concerts in Great Britain in June, including at the Download Festival . As a result, the band signed a recording deal with Prosthetic Records in July 2010 .

In August and September, they performed at Wacken Open Air in Germany and took part in the March of Brutality tour through the USA and Canada with Exodus , Malevolent Creation and Bonded by Blood , before releasing their debut album Crisis in Utopia in October has been. Anna Murphy and Meri Tadic from the Swiss band Eluveitie are featured on the album with guest appearances. James J. LaRue left the band in late 2010 and was replaced a short time later by former Bonded-by-Blood guitarist Alex Lee.

Seasons Bleedings and Ride the Void (since 2011)

In February 2011 Holy Grail appeared again in the USA and Canada as support act next to 3 Inches of Blood as part of the tour for the album Everything Remains as It Never Was by Eluveitie, before they headlined several concerts in Great Britain for the first time in March . The first headlining appearances followed in April and May in the USA and Canada, with Cauldron as the opening act. After another North American tour in the opening act of Toxic Holocaust , the band released their second EP Seasons Bleedings in December 2011 .

During 2012 Holy Grail played at the Soundwave Festival in Australia and the South by Southwest Festival in Texas . In addition, the band toured North America supporting Dragonforce and Hellyeah . During the year the band recorded their second studio album, Ride the Void , which was released on January 13, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records .

In 2014 the band started working on another album. Eli Santana and Tyler Meahl also accompanied the band Huntress on their tour. Tyler Meahl's brother Blake plays in this band. Studio work began in May 2015. Then the band went on tour on Wednesday 13th , after which a mini tour began. On this tour they also played in support of King Diamond , Death Angel and Flotsam and Jetsam . In 2015, the band also appeared in a Star Wars- inspired commercial for the Hewlett-Packard Company . The lyric video for Crystal King and a music video for No More Heroes were released in early 2016 . After that the band toured together with Marty Friedmann and Black Tusk . The album Times of Pride and Peril was finally released on February 12, 2016 via Prosthetic Records .

style

The band's roots are in heavy metal of the early 1980s. In addition, there are also modern elements of metalcore in some of the songs , the band is therefore comparable to Trivium , 3 Inches of Blood and Sanctity . The lyrics are about death, terror and other typical metal themes.
