The German School Valencia ( Spanish Colegio Alemán de Valencia ) is a German school abroad in the Spanish city of Valencia .

history

After German sales representatives hired a kindergarten teacher in Valencia in 1906 and four German students were taught in the city in 1907, the German School Association was founded in 1908. The German School Valencia was founded a year later. The first director sent by the German Reich was Wilhelm Burmeister. Due to the political situation, the following decades were very changeable: from 1914 to 1926 the school was closed in connection with the First World War , then from 1936 to 1939 because of the Spanish Civil War and most recently from 1945 to 1961 after the Second World War . In 1961 they moved into a new school building with financial support from the federal government . Since 1970 it has been possible to take the final Spanish exam.

description

The German School Valencia is located in the city center. In October 2010 the number of pupils was 810 (including 123 kindergarten children) and the number of teachers was 66. Annual school fees from 4000 euros and up are charged. The school is a member of the World Association of German Schools Abroad and was recognized as an Excellent School Abroad by a German federal and state commission.

activities

The school runs its own sports club with around 500 members. The largest departments are the “German School Valencia Fútbol Club” (DSV FC) and the basketball team.

building

The school consists of three buildings of different heights, which are connected by a covered corridor and are arranged around a spacious inner courtyard. The chief architect was Eberhard Becker and the engineer Ahlwarth Rudolph was responsible for the structures. The design of the decorative elements and outdoor facilities was in the hands of architect Dieter Weise with the help of Pablo Navarro and Julio Valencia Trullenque. A mural by Heinrich Schwarz and a sculpture by Andreu Alfaro can be seen in the building. Since 1996 the buildings have been included in the international register Docomomo (International Association for the Documentation and Preservation of Buildings in the Modern Style).
