Huntress is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles . It was founded in 2009 by the singer Jill Janus , who previously also worked as a DJ .
history
As a teenager , Jill Janus came into contact with metal, the main reasons for her interest in music were tape trading with a pen pal from Germany and the music of the suicidal tendencies . Janus, who claims to have a vocal range of four octaves , was initially a member of an opera ensemble, was a playmate and appeared as a DJ for high society under the name "DJ Tuesdae" . She did both ostensibly for the money, but always wanted to play metal.
In 2009 she founded Huntress together with guitarists Blake Meahl and Ian Alden (ex- Trigger Renegade ) as well as bassist Greg Imhoff and drummer Sean Ford von Professor . In 2010 the first self-produced EP Off with Her Head was released . A little later bassist Imhoff and drummer Ford left the band and were replaced by Eric Harris (bass, ex- Skeletonwitch ) and Carl Wierzbicky (drums). In 2011 the single Eight of Swords and a music video were released , which attracted attention within the metal scene because of the singer's "sexy appearance" . According to Janus, this was calculated as the band was hoping to get a record deal. At the end of 2011 Napalm Records signed the band and in the spring the debut album Spell Eater was released . The ensuing tour of the United States was funded by the group through an Indiegogo campaign that raised $ 17,000. For two individual donations of more than $ 1,000, Huntress recorded two cover versions exclusively at the request of the donors, who can also decide whether the recordings are officially published.
On June 28, 2013, the second album Starbound Beast was released , which, according to Jill Janus, represents the second part of a thematic album series. While Spell Eater symbolizes a girl, Starbound Beast stands for the mother who strives for something actually unattainable. The third album, on the other hand, is supposed to be about a sly old woman. With I Want to Fuck You to Death , Lemmy Kilmister contributed a lyrics to the second album.
On September 25, 2015, Huntress released their third studio album Static via Napalm Records .
Singer Jill Janus committed in 2018 on 14 August suicide .
style
On the debut album, Huntress features classic heavy metal, which is compared to bands like Judas Priest , Iced Earth and Metal Church . The trademark was the singing of Jill Janus, which was described as a mixture of Sabina Classen and Doro Pesch . The lyrics and vocal lines came from singer Janus, the music from the two guitarists Blake Meahl and Ian Alden. The texts are determined by topics from occultism and magic , Janus describes himself as a modern witch . Satanism doesn't matter to Huntress.
