Lanameter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Lanameter (also Lanometer ) is a special projection microscope for measuring the diameter of wool fibers [μm]. Fiber diameter and fiber weight are the parameters for calculating the fiber fineness [dtex].

It was described by Döhner in 1929. Lanameter are part of the laboratory equipment for textile technology and testing.

Lanameter have a slide-like frame for taking samples in which the fibers are embedded in cedar oil between two glass plates. The projection on a ground glass screen usually had a magnification of 60: 1. Reference slides with known fiber diameters are often included.

However, today's devices also deliver other magnifications (for example 50: 1 and 500: 1.)
