Deathstars is a metal band from Sweden .
Band history
Deathstars was founded in 2000 by members of the death and black metal bands Dissection , Swordmaster and Ophthalamia . In 2002 they released their first album Synthetic Generation under LED Records , which initially sold successfully in Sweden and later outside of Sweden.
Skinny, the bass player who had previously played live for Deathstars, became a permanent member in 2003. Founding member Erik "Beast X Electric" Halvorsen ( electric guitar ) dropped out in 2005 while recording the new album. On January 27, 2006, their second album Termination Bliss was released on Nuclear Blast . On September 19, 2006, Cat, who had only played live at first and was actually just the tour guitarist, became a full member of the band.
The band played their first major headlining tour, where they were supported by Stoneman . In 2007 Deathstars won the Metal Hammer Golden God Award 2007 - Best Newcomer .
On October 29, 2007, the band began recording the new album, which was originally due to be released in spring 2008. January 30, 2009 was set as the publication date. The recordings took place in the Metrosonic Recording Studios.
In 2008 they toured as the opening act for Korn , with drummer Bone W Machine being replaced by Adrian Erlandsson.
At the end of January 2009, her third studio album, Night Electric Night, was released . In February and March the band went on a European tour with Sonic Syndicate .
In 2011 and 2012 they were part of the Made-in-Germany tour of the German Neue-Deutsche-Hardness band Rammstein . In the run-up to this tour, Vice (real name: Oscar Leander) was introduced as the band's new drummer after Bone W Machine had to give up playing the drums due to a tennis elbow.
style
Special features are a hard, sterile guitar sound, which is strongly supported by synthesizers , and the deep voice of the singer Whiplasher. The Kovenant and Rammstein , among others, are considered musical influences . Whiplasher believes, however, that the band found their own form of expression with Synthetic Generation and now use this formula to write music. In addition to guttural singing, there is often clear singing and vocoder , distortion and other effects altered singing. Her lyrics “are always about conflicts and contradictions ... and about good-looking women”, but Whiplasher refuses to “explain the lyrics in any way, as this destroys any imagination of the listener. But 'Motherzone' is about returning to darkness and 'Play God' is about breaking moral values - the dark side versus the light side. "
The self-designation as Death Glam and Russian Death Pop makes it clear that the band sees and had their roots in Death Metal, as they previously performed as the band Swordmaster . Emil Nödtveidt's brother, Jon Nödtveidt , was the head of the band Dissection , in which Emil played bass for a short time and whose final album Reinkaos he produced (Bergh was a background singer). On the night that Emil Nödtveidt found out about his brother's suicide, he wrote the music for Via the End . He then declared that he had no memory of how he wrote the song. Whiplasher wrote the lyrics without knowing the situation in which the music was composed. It appeared on the album Night Electric Night and differs greatly from the other material of the band. According to Whiplasher, the band had never had such a personal song before. However, they are all personal as they deal with the lives of the musicians, but with the exception of Via the End always with a distance, a kind of black humor and cynicism . Nightmare was therefore not sure whether it should be released. Emil Nödtveidt insisted on the publication of the song.
