The Creepshow is a Canadian band from Burlington, Ontario in the Toronto metropolitan area . In the majority of their lyrics, they sing about horror films and the monsters they contain. The band is considered the most important psychobilly band in Canada and performs worldwide.
Band history
The band was formed in Burlington , Ontario in 2005 . The four founding members came from the punk scene and mainly combined punk rock and rockabilly , the two main influences of the psychobilly genre , but supplemented this with Ska influences and their own ideas. As is often the case in Psychobilly, the lyrics are clearly influenced by horror films from the start and are about zombies, for example. The band kept this concept until the 2010 album They All Fall Down .
The first album was released in 2006 on the Stereo Dynamite label , which was soon distributed by EMI . Numerous concerts, also outside of Canada, did the rest that the band quickly made a name for itself. Critics also rated the album positively. The German magazine Ox-Fanzine named The Creepshow 2007 as “Psychobilly Newcomer of the Year” alongside Rezurex .
In 2007, singer Hellcat became pregnant, left the band and was replaced by her younger sister Sarah Sin . Initially it was planned that Hellcat should return to the band. However, that didn't happen, instead she later formed her own band, Hellcat and the Prowl . Sarah became a permanent member of the band.
In 2008 the band released their second album, Run for your Life . Sonic Seducer magazine named The Creepshow one of the best psychobilly bands with female singers in a review of the album. A very positive review also appeared in Ox-Fanzine, the author of which sees the band at the top of the genre alongside the Rezurex, and during the online magazine Laut.de The Creepshow in a review of Sarah Sin's solo album as an “inconsequential blend of psychobilly and zombie texts "Criticizes another reviewer and says that the band" ensures a good mood and a good dose of dance madness ". Through the album, the band Hellcat Records attracted attention and signed the following year as the first Canadian band to sign a recording contract with the label.
The band's third album, They All Fall Down , was released in 2010. Lyrically, the typical Psychobilly themes like zombies only play a subordinate role on this album. Instead, a main theme is revenge . The main musical influences have remained the same, but some critics note that the album is more melodic than its predecessors and that the songwriting has matured. Laut.de only criticizes the short playing time of the album.
On July 16, 2012, Sarah Blackwood said goodbye to her fans on her YouTube channel. She left the band to focus on her own solo career and her band " Walk off the Earth ". As a new singer, Kenda became a member of the band. In 2013 the album Life After Death was released , on which, in addition to Kenda, guitarist Daniel Flamm also played for the first time as an official band member. Four years later, in 2017, Death At My Door was released .
