Baroness is a progressive metal - band , which in 2003 Savannah, Georgia was founded.

history

In 2004 and 2005 the first two EPs First and Second appeared ; In 2007 another EP followed as a split release with the band Unpersons called A Gray Sigh in a Flower Husk . In September 2007 the first LP called Red Album came out and received good reviews.

In May 2009 the band began to record the follow-up Blue Record , which was produced by John Congleton and released in October 2009. The album first brought Baroness into the US album charts at number 117 on the Billboard 200 . The album was rated slightly better than the debut album. After the album was released, a tour began as a support act for Mastodon .

The double album Yellow & Green was released in July 2012 . During the subsequent tour , the driver of the tour bus lost control near Bath, England, and the vehicle fell 9 meters from a bridge. Singer John Baizley broke his left arm and leg, drummer Allen Blickle and bassist Matt Maggioni suffered spinal fractures, whereupon the tour was canceled. As a result, Matt Maggioni and Allen Blickle left the band in March 2013. They came from Sebastian Thomson from Trans Am and Nick Jost.

On December 18, 2015, the fourth studio album, Purple , was released, which was voted Album of the Year 2015 by the German music magazine Visions . The song Shock Me was nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Metal Performance . However, the award went to the band Megadeth .

Trivia

Singer and guitarist John Dyer Baizley designs the album covers for his own band as well as for other bands such as Darkest Hour , The Red Chord , Kvelertak , Skeletonwitch , Black Tusk , Kylesa and Flight of the Conchords .
