RX Bandits is a four member band based out of Seal Beach , Orange County , California . The band began their career in 1995 as part of the third wave ska movement as a genre-typical ska punk band before they began to develop their own rockier and more experimental sound with their third album, Progress . This style can best be described as a mix of progressive rock , punk rock and reggae .

Band history

RX Bandits was founded in 1995 in Seal Beach by singer Matt Embree, bassist Franz Worth, brass players Rich Balling and Noah Gaffney and drummer Chris Tsagakis under the name The Pharmaceutical Bandits. A first demo appeared in 1997. Shortly afterwards, the band signed with Antedete Records and released their debut album Those Damn Bandits there . From there they switch to Drive-thru Records , which initially release the second album Halfway Between Here and There under the old name. Shortly thereafter, the band decided to shorten their name to RX Bandits and the album was released again under the new name. After touring as opening act for New Found Glory , Bloodhound Gang and Reel Big Fish , Worth and Gaffney dropped out. The new bassist James Salomon stayed only for the album Progress and was then replaced by Joseph Troy, who still plays with the RX Bandits today.

Before the album The Resignation , almost the entire line-up changes, with Embers and Tsagakis remaining as the only original members of the band. The album is also the first to get on the Billboard 200 . It reached number 148. Singer Embree then founded his own label called Mash Down Babylon Records, which initially released the live DVD RX Bandits Live: Vol.1 . The 2006 album … And the Battle Begun (2006) was also released there. The album reached number 117 on the Billboard charts. In summer 2009 the album Mandala , which was produced by Sargent House, was released. In 2010 a strictly limited live acoustic EP was released on Records Store Day .

In April 2011, the band announced that they would no longer do summer tours. The statement was misleadingly worded, so that the band later announced that they had no plans to break up. The band just wants to cut things short live.

In 2014 the band released the album "Gemini, her Majesty", still on their own label.

Music genre

The band, often called RXB for short, has a strong political claim, which is reflected in their lyrics. They were also involved in the Rock Against Bush campaign. Musically, RX Bandits were initially a skapunk band with some elements from alternative rock . From the album … And the Battle Begun the ska / reggae influences took a back seat and the group has been playing indie rock and progressive rock since then .
