Mae is a rock band from Norfolk , Virginia. The band was founded in 2001 by singer and guitarist Dave Elkins.

The name is an abbreviation for Multi-sensory Aesthetic Experience .

history

The band was formed in 2001 when Dave Elkins and Jacob Marshall wrote their first song Embers and Envelopes and broadcast it to various music labels. Tooth and Nail Records became aware of the band in 2003 and signed Mae. Shortly afterwards, the first album Destination: Beautiful was released . In 2005, the second studio album The Everglow followed . With this album, the band went on an extensive US tour and played many concerts on the Vans Warped Tour . The Everglow reappeared in 2006 with recordings of these concerts . The album now contained three new songs and a concert DVD.

After the re-release of The Everglow , the band announced that they would not renew their contract with Tooth & Nail. Mae signed a new contract with Capitol Records in the fall of 2006 and began work on the third album Singularity . Producer of this album was Howard Benson , who already for Saosin , My Chemical Romance and Relient K worked. The work on Maes third studio album was finished in the summer of 2007.

In early 2008, Mae announced that it would terminate its contract with Capitol. Nevertheless, work on a fourth album began at the same time.

Although there was no contract, the band also announced that they would publish a song on the Internet every month throughout 2009.

Side projects

Prior to Mae, Dave Elkins was a singer and co-founder of Sky's the Limit . Elkins used the song Skyline Drive for Mae's first album, although the song was previously recorded by Sky's the Limit .
