Sunn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sunn is an American trademark under which guitar amps were manufactured and sold from the mid-1960s to 2002 . The founders of the Sunn Musical Equipment Company are Norm Sundholm - bassist of the still active band The Kingsmen - and his brother Conrad Sundholm from Portland , Oregon . Due to the ever increasing appearances of The Kingsmen in the 1960s and the fact that the performance of their stage equipment (in particular the standard Sundholms bass amplifier) was no longer sufficient to fill the concert halls with sound, the bassist was forced to building amplifiers himself with his brother. In the mid-1960s, for example, amplifiers for electric guitars and basses were manufactured by their company, Sunn Musical Equipment Company. The amplifiers built by the two brothers became more popular and the company grew. After differences of opinion between the two brothers, Norm left the company in the 1970s. A little later Sunn was sold to the Hartzell Corporation, which continued the production of Sunn amplifiers. In the 1980s, the company bought Fender Sunn and also manufactured Sunn amplifiers for a while until the production of Sunn equipment was stopped in 2002. Today, Sunn amplifiers are therefore no longer available in the free trade, but only on the used market. Over 40 different models of Sunn amplifiers have been built over the years. These amps had a huge impact on the sound of various rock bands.
