White Walker
White Walker (in German: Weißer Wanderer ) is a song by the American progressive metal band Mastodon . It appeared on the sampler Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2 .
Origin and background
According to their drummer Brann Dailor, the musicians of the band Mastodon are big fans of the TV series Game of Thrones . At the Sonisphere Festival in England , Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds met some of the actors in the series and stayed in touch with them. It turned out that one of the producers of the DB Weiss series is a metal fan. After a sampler with hip-hop artists appeared in 2014 , the second edition of the sampler should also contain other styles of music, including metal. Mastodon got the offer to contribute a song for the new sampler. Brann Dailor had the idea for the song when the musicians flew from Helsinki to their native Atlanta at the end of a tour . First, he wrote a few lines of text that he described as "creepy, haunting, slow and easy". Together with guitarists Bill Kelliher and Brent Hinds, he worked on the song before it was recorded. The eponymous White Walkers are a non-human race from the Game of Thrones series .
The sampler Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2 was released in March 2015 for free download from iTunes and SoundCloud . On February 19, 2016 published Mastodon the song on a limited 12 " - Picture Disc The A side contains the song. White Walker , while the B-side one a cappella version of the song contains the. Single Cover designed was by Richey Beckett .

For Michelle Geslani from the US online magazine Consequence of Sound , Mastodon and White Walker would honor the White Walkers from the series "with blatant guitar solos and haunting vocals". Bram Teitelman from the online magazine Metal Insider described White Walker as “the most melodic song possible that Mastodon have ever written”.
