Primitive is the second studio album of the Metal - band Soulfly . It was released on Roadrunner Records in September 2000 .

Origin and style

Primitive was made at Saltmine Studio Oasis in Mesa , Arizona with producer Toby Wright . Several guest musicians took part: Chino Moreno on the song Pain or Tom Araya on Terrorist , a piece in which you can hear lines from Inner Self from Cavalera's former band Sepultura and from Criminally Insane from Araya's band Slayer . Mulambo was recorded with the tribe of the same name, Son Song with Sean Lennon . Pop elements are used in the latter song , a dub - reggae part in Bring It, and hip-hop elements in Mulambo and In Memory Of ... Jumpdafuckup has slight nods to the Industrial on, here sang Corey Taylor of Slipknot with. The album cover was designed by the tattoo artist Leo Zulueta .

reception

Andreas Himmelstein awarded four out of ten points in Rock Hard magazine . The songs are of "rather poor quality", only the instrumental Soulfly II with its world music elements is convincing. "If Soulfy were to work more in this direction, they could deliver really good albums. Instead, with all their well-intentioned aggression, they maneuver themselves into a musical dead end. "
