A-Lex is the eleventh studio album of Brazilian thrash metal - band Sepultura . It was released by Steamhammer / SPV in January 2009 .

Emergence

Like its predecessor Dante XXI , which was based on Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy , A-Lex is a concept album . A-Lex is based on the book A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess in 1962, which in 1971 by Stanley Kubrick filmed was. A-Lex is the first album with the new drummer Jean Dolabella after Igor Cavalera left the band in 2006.

A-Lex was recorded at Trama Studios in São Paulo in 2008 and mixed at Mega Studios. Stanley Soares produced together with the band, Monika Cavalera was executive producer. According to the band, the record was made in record time because it was based on studio jam sessions the band had recorded over a period of three months.

Guitarist Andreas Kisser said about the concept of the album:

"We will write our soundtrack for this story and Burgess' life will be an inspiration also to write the music, lyrics and for the artwork."

The title is a play on Alex, the main character of A Clockwork Orange , and the from the Latin or ancient Greek originating a lex (without law ').

reception

The album reached number 82 in the charts in Germany , number 53 in Austria and number 68 in Switzerland . Ronny Bittner criticized the album in Rock Hard magazine . He wrote: “You never hear the concept of the album at any point. The resulting uniform noise only makes you sit up and take notice when it comes to the variable sadistic values . ”Six out of ten points were awarded. In contrast, Allmusic's Alex Henderson praised the implementation of the album concept. In addition, the band's vitality can be heard, he summed up: "vitality is alive and well on the superb A-Lex." He awarded four out of five stars. The tried and tested Thrash Metal , with its new nuances of nuances , is positioned next to the masterpiece Roots in terms of intensity , said Norbert Schiegl in the Musik Woche .
