Derrick Leon Green (born January 20, 1971 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American hardcore and metal singer who was best known as the front man of the band Sepultura .

Career

Green, who grew up in Cleveland as the youngest of three siblings, became the singer in 1986 in the band Outface , which got a record deal through Walter Schreifels ( Gorilla Biscuits ). In 1992 she released her album Friendly Green after two demos . After further activities in the New York hardcore scene, Green formed the band Alpha Jerk with Sara Cox in 1996 and released another album.

In 1997 Green was contacted by Roadrunner Records' A&R man Mike Grid , who told him that Sepultura were looking for a singer. Green recorded a song ( choke ) and sent it to Brazil . A month later Igor Cavalera called him back. After two weeks of rehearsal together, Green became the band's singer and recorded the album Against with them. Green also sings on all of the band's other albums. He was also active as a guest musician, for example on Biohazard's Uncivilization (2000).

Green is a vegetarian and is committed to the animal rights organization PETA .
