Bestial Devastation is an EP by the Brazilian metal band Sepultura . It was released in 1990 and contains Sepultura's contribution to the split release Século XX / Bestial Devastation with Overdose from 1985 and a remixed version of the title Troops of Doom from the debut album Morbid Visions .

Emergence

At the time of the recording for the split release with Overdose, the band was completely inexperienced; the pieces were recorded with overdriven amplifiers and produced by the band itself. They were recorded without a big drum , since drummer Igor Cavalera did not own a drum pedal and had never used one; he had learned to play the drums in 1983 and 1984 with only a snare drum , a floor tom and a cymbal .

Troops of Doom was recorded in August 1990 with 16 tracks in JG Studios, BH, Brazil by Gaugum, who was also the sound engineer in charge . The track was mixed down by Scott Burns . Henrique played the synthesizer.

Music style and lyrics

The music has been described as "really brutal," the instruments and production sound very raw. Max Cavalera's vocals consist of “manic death metal growls and evil screams”. Sepultura's texts are in English and deal with apocalyptic scenarios, satanism , death and destruction. Accordingly, the material can be classified as Death Metal , formerly Black Metal or Black Metal -influenced Thrash Metal .

Reviews

According to iommi600 from Ultimate-Guitar.Com , the poor production doesn't affect listening to the album; It's one of the band's most brutal works, and Igor Cavalera is really good for his age. The lyrics are not very impressive, but Max Cavalera's singing is very powerful.
