Immortal Technique (born February 19, 1978 in Lima , Peru ; real name Felipe Andres Coronel ) is a Peruvian-American rapper of Afro - Peruvian origin from Harlem , New York . He is the owner of the record label Viper Records .

biography

Coronel was born in Peru and moved to New York with his family when he was two years old. He was sentenced to imprisonment for criminal activities and began to find out about the economic problems of South America, racism and Latin American revolutionary freedom fighters in prison. There he studied the life and teachings of Che Guevara and Malcolm X .

After his release from prison in 1999, he returned to New York and took on various jobs. He was also active as a successful underground rapper and was already starting to write lyrics for his first album.

Because his lyrics were too politically oriented, he struggled to find a label, and he released his debut album in 2001 with a circulation of 3000 copies on Viper Records under the title Revolutionary Vol. 1 . Another 9000 pieces of the album were re-pressed.

Two years later, his second album Revolutionary Vol. 2 , on which he took up the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , was released with a circulation of 65,000.

In 2004, the piece Bin Laden was released with Mos Def and DJ Green Lantern . In 2005 he published the title Impeach the President together with Dead Prez and Saigon .

His album The 3rd World , released in 2008, reached number 99 on the Billboard charts.

The album The Martyr , released in 2011, was made available for free download on its official website.
