House of Pain
House of Pain was an American rap band. It was founded in 1991 and consisted of the two MCs Daniel O'Connor (Danny Boy) and Erik Schrody ( Everlast ) as well as the DJ Leors Dimants ( DJ Lethal ). The band's name was taken from the horror novel The Island of Dr. Moreau borrowed from HG Wells .
history
After Everlast's solo album Forever Everlasting had not achieved the desired success, he founded the group House of Pain with his high school friends Danny and Leor. Through contact with Cypress Hills DJ Muggs , who produced their debut album , the band received a recording deal. In 1992 her debut album House of Pain was released on Tommy Boy Records . The single Jump Around reached number 3 on the US charts and made her famous.
The trio often came into conflict with the law because of excessive alcohol consumption or unauthorized possession of weapons (Everlast). Because of this criminal record, the planned pub House of Pizza , which the band wanted to open with actor Mickey Rourke , never became a reality.
The trio appeared on the 1993 Judgment Night soundtrack . Danny Boy and Everlast played minor supporting roles in the film. The group released their second album Same As It Ever Was in 1994 , which could not build on the success of the predecessor. After that it became quieter for the band. In 1996 the third and final album (Truth Crushed To Earth Shall) Rise Again was released , which was largely ignored by the press and fans. On the day of publication, Everlast left the band, which broke up with it. He started a solo career and released other albums. DJ Lethal switched to Limp Bizkit , with whom he successfully continued his career.
No one heard from Danny Boy for a long time. His ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms) project failed before it was first published. In 2000/2001, Danny Boy was in a group called X-Supermodels . He then joined the Shotblockers project , which includes Danny Diablo.
Since 2006, all members have been part of the rap formation La Coka Nostra in various functions , which released the album A Brand You Can Trust in 2009.
In 2011 House of Pain went on an anniversary tour where they played five concerts in Germany.
Background of the band name
In 1896 published the novel “The island of Dr. Moreau ”, animals are transformed into human-like chimeras by vivisection, which can walk and speak upright, but always tend to revert to their animal nature. If you do not follow the instructions provided by Dr. Moreau issued laws ("The Law") and z. B. eat meat, this threatens to revive it in the "House of Pain".
“Who breaks the Law—” said Moreau, taking his eyes off his victim, and turning towards us (it seemed to me there was a touch of exultation in his voice)
“Goes back to the House of Pain,” they all clamored , - “goes back to the House of Pain, O Master!” “
The debut album Fine Malt Lyrics uses several samples from the film adaptation of “The Island of Dr. Moreau ”from 1977, u. a. right at the beginning in the title “Salutations”; the title “Commercial” consists of a longer sample from the film.
The band's 2011 tour was titled "He Who Breaks the Law", again a quote from the novel by H. G. Wells.
