As show business , show business or show business (newer neologism: ShowBiz and showbiz ), the leisure and entertainment industry , often the US, referred to in all its forms. This name has gained worldwide acceptance through use in media such as the press, radio and television.

Typical manifestations for the world of show business are associated with a few places:

Companies active in the show business sector are tightly organized and strongly profit-oriented . The donors expect the highest possible return or distribution for their invested capital. The companies try to attract top artists with high salaries, whose performances in turn attract audiences or convince critics in such a way that their positive reporting draws people to the shows.

This orientation towards success harbors a tendency to rely on the tried and tested. Artistic individualism and creativity are in the latent danger of being less prominent in show business.

Internationally known film stars (e.g. Charles Chaplin , John Wayne , Katharine Hepburn , Marilyn Monroe etc.), singers ( Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin , Michael Jackson , Liza Minnelli , Madonna etc.) were or are among the greats in show business , Music groups ( The Beatles , The Rolling Stones etc.), but also other entertainers such as David Copperfield with his show or first-class people from cabaret and vaudeville . Artists courted by the audience often go on tour at home or abroad. Occasional appearances on television ensure continued popularity of the show size and can secure the sale of your (new) sound carriers .

The show business has a long tradition. Revues originated in France as early as the 1830s . American-style show business began to flourish in West Germany in the 1950s. After the end of the war, Hollywood films prevailed in the cinema , the newsreel reported on stars, and the gossip press took off. First of all, radio and , from the 1960s onwards, television aroused the desire in the general public not to be connected to a show size only via the airwaves or the screen .

Schlager was made under American influence by the fact that a song was often played on the radio and the demand triggered by record sales was followed in hit lists. Successful performers later appeared in television entertainment programs or, like Caterina Valente or Peter Alexander, received their own television show .

In a border area to show business, there were successful athletes who wanted to transform their names associated with sporting successes into tinkling coins through hit song. This development began with Max Schmeling in the 1930s.

In the 1980s, the musical took off again. Own permanent venues for only one piece were built. Some of these musicals became world successes and enlivened this genre of show business.
