Jomsviking is the tenth studio album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth . It was released on March 25, 2016 and is the band's first concept album. The subject of the album is the Jomswikinger , a legendary mercenary group. In the run-up to the album release, two songs from the album, First Kill and At Dawn's First Light , were released, for which music videos were also shot.
Tobias Gustafsson (formerly Vomitory ) took the position on drums for the album recordings . Doro Pesch acted as guest singer in the song A Dream That Cannot Be .
Jomsviking went straight to number 1 in the official German charts on April 1, making it the first Amon Amarth album to climb to the top position in Germany.

Jomsviking immediately entered the German and Austrian album charts at number 1 , while it was at number 3 in Switzerland.
reception
The album was named “Album of the Month April 2016” by Metal Hammer . Reviewer Sebastian Kessler awarded 6 out of 7 points and described the album as “ an Amon Amarth album through and through, including all the elements we have come to love - but above all with aggressive, Viking-strong songs! "And especially praises the creation of" a mental cinema without having to resort to clutter such as extended spoken word passages, narrative instrumentals or cinematic orchestral accompaniment.
