Hymns to the Rising Sun is the first compilation / best-of album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth . It was released on September 8, 2010 via Metal Blade Records Japan exclusively for the Japanese market. The songs were simply put together for the CD and, according to the booklet, they were not re- recorded or mastered . The cover artwork was designed by the Düsseldorf graphic artist and designer Thomas Ewerhard .
According to Metal Blade Records Japan, the release date was deliberately set for September 2010 so that the album could act as a teaser for Amon Amarth's performance at the Loudpark Festival on October 16, 2010. The concert was the first ever appearance of the band in Japan.
