The Crusher is the third studio album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth . It was released on May 8, 2001 via Metal Blade Records . On June 29, 2007, the album was released as a picture LP with a strictly limited edition of 500 copies. A re-release as The Crusher Deluxe Reissue took place on August 28, 2009.
Origin and publication history
The songwriting to The Crusher began essentially after the tour with Morbid Angel in December 1999. Only a year later it was in November 2000 at Studio Abyss by Lars Szöke added and Peter Tägtgren mixed . Only the bonus track was not recorded in Abyss Studio, but in Das Boot Studios in Stockholm . The mastering was carried out by Peter In De Betou in the Stockholm Cutting Room Studios . The cover artwork was created jointly by Tom Thiel and the Düsseldorf graphic artist and designer Thomas Ewerhard , who also did the rest of the artwork for the album.
The Crusher Deluxe Reissue
In the course of Amon Amarth's Bloodshed over Bochum concert series, which lasted from December 28th to 31st, 2008, the album was performed and recorded in full on December 30th. On August 28th, 2009 The Crusher was re-released as a new mastered edition by Jens Bogren together with the live recording as a 2-CD digipack. The title list corresponds to the digipack version; only the live version of the album is missing the bonus track The Eyes of Horror because it was not performed. The concert was also filmed and published on the bonus DVD of the Surtur Rising digipack on March 25, 2011.
Track list
All arrangements are by Amon Amarth. The song Risen from the Sea (2000) is a new recording of the song Risen from the Sea from the demo Thor Arise , which was never released . To distinguish the two versions, the (2000) was added.

reception
The album was mostly well received by the press and fans, but mostly with minor restrictions in terms of songwriting. The author Pro from the webzine metal.de awards 8 out of 10 points for the album and comes to the conclusion:
"Amon Amarth did their job very well in 2001, and those who haven't liked them until now will not join the crowd with" The Crusher "either."
Alexander Melzer from the webzine metal-observer.com is also of the opinion that the album should be particularly popular with fans, but not necessarily with newbies. With 9 out of 10 points it still gives it a very good rating. Marcel Steinberg even describes the album as "a highlight of the band" and awards 8.5 out of 10 points.
